So I just got robbed.

Was a dumba$$ and left my back door unlocked.
Came home from work and found all the drawers open and stuff rifled through.
Somehow the thieves decided that my two TV's weren't worth going after, and just decided to steal my wife's jewelry box.
Probably about $500 worth of stuff stolen...
but biggest item lost was a handwritten note from my (deceased) grandfather to my (deceased) grandmother when he was in Paris in 1944 near the end of WWII.
Really feeling like a piece of sh*t right about now. Filed the police report. Another house got knocked over in my neighborhood, so I don't feel like quite as big a moron, but the letter stings.

GO TO THEM IN PERSON.
The police won't come until you find your own stuff.
Then threaten the Pawn Shop with closing them down and bring in the police.
Personal experience.
Go quickly too.

Sorry to hear that. I know it makes you sick. I have been a victim of theft a number of times. You really feel violated when someone comes into your home, and the sad part is that you never know their intentions. Probably a good thing that no body was home and that you and your family are safe.

I sympathize with you more than words can say. We were moving from Philly to SC in 2005, My wife and kids already came to SC and were staying with my parents. I make a weekend trip to visit them, came home to find my home nearly empty. They stole everything, even my wife's wedding dress...
They were obviously neighbors or friends of neighbors, because it was such a massive theft and they knew no one was home.
I will never forget it. I was afraid to sleep there too. After that, I stayed with friends until our move was finalized.
I remain grateful to God for one thing though, My wife and kids weren't there.
My prayers are with you and your family.

What area do you live? It may prevent someone else from going threw this ordeal. I've been robbed and it sucks. Mainly lost fishing equipment but also lost a ladder and leaf blower.. I secretly thanked them for taking the leaf blower. It not only sucks bc of losing valuables but to know some stranger was in your home going threw your things makes you feels uneasy and violated. I hate a thief. I didnt know how much until i had that experience. We don't know for sure who it was but some guys in the area were arrested a year later for breaking and entering and when they searched the home there was a bunch of stolen goods. None of ours was there but I'm sure it was hocked pretty quickly. I'm sorry that happened to you and I hope your letter makes it back to you some how.

Curious as to know how a gun would've prevented the break-in while no one was there,and no I'm not anti-gun...Get you a good security system with backup and a quality hidden cam.Check in on it multiple times a day, get the ones that have video record in case you missed them live, that way maybe you can identify them later on.

If it makes you feel better, they probably would have hit you regardless of the door being un-locked. A locked door only slows a good thief down about 10 to 15 seconds.
