John Schier former player his top assistant is taking over. He already has the top recruiting class in nation coming in next season. So they will at least be fair, but bench coaching will probably decline.

Nothing special about Coach K. He is a good coach but the secret of his success are the guys paying recruits to attend Duke. We saw it first hand with Zion

You probably think Nick Saban is a good coach too...

You've got a lot to learn about college sports, bob.

Nope. Same for CDS. They're just good recruiters

and that's only because they probably skirt the rules on the reg.

No matter how much it declines, it will still be better than anything we have with the current coaching staff we have. Sorry ,I don't normally make these kind of remarks, but it is time for a change within the current program at Clemson.
Say what you want about the 5 game winning streak, or how hard we played against Va. Tech. or even who is returning next season, until the culture changes ,nothing changes.

Irony ?

Mar 11, 2022, 7:58 AM

Do you ever say anything good ?

Mar 11, 2022, 8:02 AM

Yes, when there is something good to talk about. But I do not mind voicing my opinion. At least you responded. And that is good because at least somebody took the time to read what I had to say, and respond.

When Coach K was sick a few years ago there was a pretty huge decline if my memory serves me right. I remember being surprised because I’m thinking it was the same players. Cannot even remember the fill in’s name now.

Well that was 27 years ago

Mar 11, 2022, 8:31 AM

If you are referring to the year he missed because of back surgery. Their new coach John Sheyer was only 7 years old and Pitt head coach Jeff Capel was a sophomore guard. It looks like they’re gonna keep the ball rolling in recruiting with Sheyer; they currently have the #1 class for both 2022 and 2023 according to 247. As long as they continue to pay recruits at the same level that they did during K’s tenure I don’t see em going anywhere.

I know what you mean

I remember standing in those risers on the end line an hour before tip off when that team came to Littlejohn. Capel came over and talked to us in the student section while Greg Newton (cheater!) was practicing free throws.

Pete Gaudet

Mar 11, 2022, 8:51 AM [ in reply to Re: Irony ? ]

and after being with K since 1982, he was gone from dook the next year

still think it's a bit much that K petitioned the NCAA to remove those 19 games where Gaudet coached from his coaching record

Aren't you the guy that mostly posts the stupid "Tell em coot" responses? Quite the hypocrite.

I think K is going to be around the program so much that it wont really matter. Wasnt there a story out that Duke wanted to Hire Tommy Amaker but he wanted Scheyer to replace him so he would have more input/control over the program?

Re: so how much will duke basketball decline when cmk retires?

Tough to replace a Coach K I don’t care who you bring in. That’s 40+ years of experiences. Next man up has his work cut out for him.

Coach K will have an advisory role with the university but

Mar 11, 2022, 11:03 AM [ in reply to Re: so how much will duke basketball decline when cmk retires? ]

says he will be completely "hands off" with the basketball program.

Not at all! Coach K is staying on as an ambassador and will assure that recruiting stays at the same level in the future. They already have the #1 player in the country in Lively 7'-2" center from the Westtown School in suburban Philadelphia coming in next year.....
