Maybe now we won’t be seeing 3rd and 6 anymore.

Nothi9ng is wrong with a bubble screen, as long as it is mixed in and not predictable.

Or used when you are so unimaginative that it is your default call when you cannot think of what else to call.

No necessarily. TCU ran it a good bit this past season. However, they had quick weapons on the outside who could get the YAC.

Unless all you run is the bubble screen

Terrible idea for a play. Fundamentally flawed. Only works

against inferior competition or if the WR can make 2 people miss.

Works if your receivers can block.

Nah, a good DC simply cheats with the SS on spread teams

Jan 13, 2023, 6:42 PM

and you don't have enough blockers. They can also press the edge and jump the screen when they see the WR setting up for it. It is just a dumb play.

RB screens work because you're taking advantage of over-aggressive pass rushing. Bubble screens are just dumb.

It works, it don't work well if it's run to slow, it has to be run kind of frisky.

Nothing is wrong with the bubble screen as long as you have a Travis Etienne to shoot up the sideline after he catches if

It was those backwards passes that scared me!

Re: So, has the bubble screen finally been nixed?

Gawsh, those backward passes to RBs in the flat just terrify me.

My two biggest gripes about Streeter was the poor way in which the movements of the RB and QB were not synchronized well enough to eliminate situations when the backward flat pass was ever thrown.

My other big gripe was the slow speed with which our offense adjusted (within a half of the FB game) to repeatedly effective defensive sets.

Let’s hope that G.Riley can get that part of the 2022 offense fixed immediately.

Re: So, has the bubble screen finally been nixed?

Jan 13, 2023, 5:28 PM

No. There is nothing wrong with the bubble screen. We just need to limit its use and mix our plays up so we aren't vanilla/predictable. No play should be run constantly to the point that the opposition can predict it, as well as build their defenses to handle it with ease.

No. I saw several TCU fans say that Riley does too many

He will use the Bubble Screen, and I am sure that he will use it differently than the way Elliott and Streeter used it. We can only hope that he can help our guys be successful, and back to being a threat to any of the elite Top Dogs...

I liked the bubble screen when we had Artavis Scott.

I certainly hope not.

Jan 13, 2023, 6:35 PM

We've used it to great effect in the past.

It's not a bad play when it works (hehe) and have the guys to do it. I see teams run it to near perfection many times and it is because their WR's can block their behinds off.

Go back and watch the Kansas / TCU game this year and Riley used quite a few bubble screens.

Re: So, has the bubble screen finally been nixed?

Jan 13, 2023, 7:16 PM

Doubt it. Wish we would run a traditional screen though.

Our receivers have not been big enough to effectively block the last couple of years and you need a speedy wideout with a couple in front of you that can block somebody. Receivers looked like Swiss cheese and we never could make that play work, but dang if they did not try.
