Wouldn't that be a step down for him?

Seems like pure speculation, especially considering:
(1) The timing "last week" - he was offered before Bates left?
(2) It's been widely reported that Buckner does not have a college degree, and that a college degree is a requirement for the position

I just posted what I read... No clue as to authenticity, but

if true, interesting. The "timing" thing makes it even more so...

Speculation seems to be rampant in journalism these days

Jan 6, 2022, 2:22 PM [ in reply to Re: So Buckner declined...? At least it shows respect for these ]

I agree that the article seems off.

UNLESS; Dabo knew Bates was leaving well before announced, so Dabo Offered Buckner and was rejected , Therefore he hires Eason (who hasn’t officially been hired) , this causes Auburn to go after Buckner, and now Adam Schefter reports it all! Never play a game of wits with a Sicilian !

My most lasting memory of Buckner was him being ejected

Jan 6, 2022, 4:16 PM

... from our bowl game against Cal for throwing a punch at the Cal QB.

This while the entire Clemson team stunk up the field in a big upset loss.

In the grand scheme of things, it was a minor incident, but perhaps gave us some insight into his character.

I’m glad we hired Nick Eason.

Dang you have a good memory. I remember it now but did not connects the dots, I’d long forgotten. Eason is a great hire.

I still remember the bowl game.

He is a great talent. Tigers were bad during his years. Bad timing.

I do remember Buckner playing the first half (was at the game) so it couldn't be him.

That was Ed McDaniel. I was in Orlando in '91 for that bowl and was at that pep rally. It was pretty embarrassing especially considering how we played the next day. Funny that Hatfield only suspended him for the first quarter.

I was at the game. We should have won big, but the guys laid down on Hatfield and were not into the game at all. We were very undisciplined that day and it was embarrassing for Clemson U. The game was played in Orlando and I believe it was the Citrus Bowl. Long ride home.

Yes, it was Ed McDaniel. Lot of bad language used on stage of Pep Rally.
