Craig Mobley, a 6-foot guard, was the first African-American basketball player at Clemson University.
Clemson coach Bobby Roberts recruited Mobley, but Tates Locke replaced Roberts as head coach and began recruiting more black athletes, including Anthony Brown of Anderson, S.C.
Mobley appeared in 11 games for Clemson during the 1970-71 season.
An engineering major, Mobley wound up leaving the team following his only varsity season to focus on his studies.

I think he was actually a walk on because he played intramural ball. He was really good playing among normal competition. That always reminded me how good you have to be in college hoops

I believe that would be "Jive" Anthony Brown back in 1971. But I've slept a couple of nights since then, so it's possible my memory is clouded.

back then we had a guy called Jo Jo Bethea. He could dribble it off his foot at the most inopportune times.
