Since I know we would never get Kendall Briles

Oct 20, 2021, 9:59 AM

I would love to talk to Jeff Lebby or John David Baker, the QB coach and passing game Coordinator at Ole Miss. Dudes are all taking advantage of mismatches all over the field. This makes a difference. Plus their stuff is rarely slow developing, sideline plays. I know it's unlikely we make any changes, and IF Tony were to leave I see Streeter moving up, but IF that were to happen. these guys are GOOD.

I think that if we don't show improvement by end of the year we'll see a change in the offseason. The media and the fanbase outcry at that point will be deafening. At the very least we'll see someone hired as an offensive consultant to save face with TE and put another voice in the room. I think it's great to promote from within, but if it's obvious change needs to be made, cut the check and bring someone in the fold.

I wouldn’t want Kendal Briles anyway, he’s overrated. This year he’s got about a 40th rated scoring offense, last year it was in the 80s. I know both of those are way better than we’ve got this year, but not on par with where we’ve been over the last few years. He’s one of those guys who gets too much credit because of his last name; shoot, he might as well be named Bowden.

Umm, do you realize what Bret Bielema had done with the Hogs offense prior to Briles arriving? They were beyond pathetic. I would rather watch a 12 yard incompletion than an entire day of 3 yard runs. it was more boring than 2009 Alabama. Briles and Pittman have made amazing progress imo.

Also Lincoln Rileys brother who is at SMU. Another fresh young innovative mind.

I would be we get Wily Korn. He checks Dabos box as a Clemson Guy and also the box of innovative offensive mind. Also he makes less as the OC at Coastal than we pay position coaches.

Option offenses don’t work at high level football programs/conferences.

No, the triple option doesn't work at high level football programs (are we still a high level football program?) Chadwell runs what he calls the spread option, which is really just an offense based around RPOs. RPOs feature heavily into NFL offenses. And Coastal Carolina is currently ranked #14 and has the third highest rated offense in the country (whose QB is completing 80% of his passes and leads the country in QB rating and yards per attempt). I would call that a high level program.

But I do agree I'd prefer less RPO/option and more opening it up to a spread. I've been voted down here since I started because I said relying on draws/screens and misdirection when you're one of, if not the, most talented offenses in the country is absolutely idiotic.

If Dabo promoted Streeter to offensive coordinator, after his actively hurting several QBs' development (and the only reason Deshaun didn't regress was he hired a private coach), he clearly no longer cares and should be fired. Here's a fun game. Here are two stat lines, both are average stats per game for the two worst Clemson QBs statistically in 50 years. Who are they?

56.3% completions for 134 yards, .6 touchdowns, 1 interception per game

55.7% completions for 162 yards, .6 touchdowns, .5 interceptions per game

Extremely close, right? If you guessed the first one was Brandon Streeter, you guessed right. I find it really interesting that we hired the absolute worst quarterback Clemson's had in the last 50 years to develop our 5 Star Quarterbacks.
