Ships speed is back

Sep 18, 2022, 7:09 AM

He was quick last year but seeing him live for the first time this year last night he’s way faster then last year and has his balance back as well. Most important part about his game is the Clemson Fire he plays with he brings the intensity that we are missing. I don’t think anything was gonna stop him on that TD run to open the second half and if DJ can continue dropping dimes and force teams to respect it that will only open up more lanes for the backs. Don’t get some of the hate he gets from some fans (especially the whole white part) but I believe he’s our best back. IF this team can put together a complete FOUR quarter game it will be a tough team and I’m very excited for the future with Beaux, Williams, Randall. Not gonna lie first half was kind of depressing but the second half we looked like Clemson and I wanna see some more of Sherrod Covil Jr that kid reminds me of Dawkins the way he lays people out miss seeing that punishing defense. Hope everyone has a great day, end of three hour drive rant lol.

Shipley has a fire and a passion for the game that cannot be coached. He’s providing much needed leadership for this team right now. Beaux, Williams and Randall are the type of receivers we are used to seeing here at Clemson. In the past we have simply lined our receivers up and knew they were better than the other team’s guys. We haven’t seen that attitude from our receiving corp in a while. I think the right pieces are there right now.

My only real concern going forward is the pass defense. I know we had some guys out last night but I’ve seen some serious breakdowns in coverage in each game we’ve played. Seeing it happen a couple of times doesn’t concern me but when I see us getting burned repeatedly by Furman and La Tech it’s a problem. We’ve got some talent in the secondary but often times they’re getting burned because of simple lapses in coverage. What are your thoughts?

I think we really missed Mukuba, and that’s always been a weak point in our defense if we can keep everything in front and not get burned on TDs consistently I think we will be on because even on our bench it’s HARD to score in the red one in us. At this point though I think we would benefit from playing Jeadyn Lukus and Torino more to get them that experience. But our young pieces from last year are studs Sherrod and Woodaz have been impressive Woodaz has that bruise brother attitude. If we can put together a complete game we can be really good.

He seems to be the leader of our offense in regards to “fire” and intensity. Hopefully he will stay healthy. We have a lot of moving pieces (new and first time Coordinators, freshmen players) trying to get in sync with one another.

Question, and not pointing fingers - does a knowledgeable, nice guy coach, who is described as “laid back” inspire the needed intensity or passion to the players? Typically, the players will demonstrate the same traits as the coach. I thought of this last week when Dabo himself called out a particular group for playing lazy or uninspired. Thoughts?

Regardless, the tune up games are over and the bright lights are coming on. Go Tigers !!!
