I know UT's target is Chris Beard because he is an alum but his last two seasons would put him on the hotseat UT. UT is the most unrealistic program at this time outside of NC State... and they are gaining on state.

Naw, I would give Smart a lot more credit there.
Texas was openly unhappy with him, especially before this season. His early success kinda cooled off the pitchforks but Texas had wondering eyes.
OP was a true middle-of-the-right escape. Dump via friends text message. Clemson was happy with OP and not expecting OP to take off to my knowledge.

I was at Clemson at the time and I remember hearing the news walking to morning class. Everyone in the class who cared about sports was talking about it and was shocked.
IIRC, we were actually pumped up about a big recruit he was supposed to be bringing in for the next year.

That recruit was that Leonard kid out of J.L Mann(Greenville, S.C) When OP Left for DePaul Leonard went elsewhere..

Wouldnt surprise me to see him leave UK but it'd come at a huge cost....he gets paid over $8M p/year now and they gave him a lifetime contract 2 years ago and there is some dumb deal where gets like a million a year until he's 90. So, Texas has to offer something similar....which they have the money to do so.

Shaka is smart to get out while he's still on top and not pushed out the door. Two short weeks ago, Texas was the trendy pick to reach the Final Four. Texas folks are not completely happy with him and losing in the first round with a very talented team was not going to play well with the natives.
Still, it's a step down.
