SEC - it just means more ?? Basketball - #1 Auburn

Jan 26, 2022, 1:02 PM

Basketball - #1 SC
Football - #1 UGA
Baseball - 4 of top 5 from SEC (#1 is future member Texas)
Softball - 2 of top 5 from SEC (#1 is future member Oklahoma)

A snapshot of the moment…

Never thought I’d see the day where the once great ACC had ONE team ranked in MBB. I still think ACC gets 4 teams in the men’s tourney. And several women’s teams get in

Soccer - #1 Clemson (well SEC doesn't have soccer but if they did 9 of 10 teams would probably be ranked)

Congrats at claiming pre/mid-season championships and even upped it to claiming "future members". For some reason, I can't find the SEC winning any soccer natties.... but I can fine a Clemson one from this year. Even the FSU folks can find theirs too.

And you might want to check your data here. It isn't like the ACC has not done that a few times in the last 5 years.

The ACC has won the Natty in Football/Basketball TWICE

2017 Clemson/UNC
2019 Clemson/Virginia

Yes, the basketball / football thingy has happened many

times over the years within one conference. That’s why I didn’t mention it - because it’s not unique. The CURRENT rankings are unique. It’s wild for so many teams from one conference to be ranked so highly. We’ll see how it shakes out later, but for now it’s pretty amazing

Re: Yes, the basketball / football thingy has happened many

Many times? Not really. 9 times in the past 60 years. 11 times overall. How about that each time Clemson has won it all, another ACC team is the Basketball champ. The ACC has done it the most.

For years, 2019 is 2018-2019 so academic calendar only. So for example the Miami 2001-2002 NC does not overlap with Cuse 2002-2003 or Florida 05-06 champ to their 06 football -that counts for their 07 champ.

2019 ACC (Clemson and Virginia)
2017 ACC (Clemson and UNC)
2012 SEC (Alabama and Kentuck)
2007 SEC (Florida - that is more of a school accomplishment here)
1991 ACC (GT and Duke)
1982 ACC (Clemson and UNC)
1975 PAC (USC and UCLA)
1973 PAC (USC and UCLA)
1967 PAC (USC and UCLA)
1958 SEC (Auburn and Kentucy)
1953 B10 (Mich St and Indiana)
1941 B10 (Minnesota and Wisconsin)

On a side note, Duk/FSU have a very strange orbit. When they win it, the other team is often the defending Champ, the runner-up, or wins it the following season. Even GT's Natty

That’s precious though.

The question you haven’t asked yourself is…….will the whole country tune in to watch SEC sports?

The answer is NO, which makes the whole current SEC sugar daddy program an unsustainable money loser for the sugar daddy.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

You are correct - we haven’t asked (or cared) about

Jan 27, 2022, 3:59 PM

that question. Just like we don’t care about the ratings for the NCAA BB tourneys, CWS, softball, gymnastics, etc. Thats not the job of conferences or their fans. We just want to keep stacking wins on top of wins, on top of championships. I love excellence. And at this moment, we are all witnessing excellence across the board with SEC sports.

I appreciated the excellent effort that Clemson gave against Duke the other night. It matters not that I’m not a fan of either team. Clemson played great, Duke played ok and it was an enjoyable game to watch ????

I honestly only care how Clemson finishes or is ranked in any sport, I never understood the conference bragging, seems silly to root for a team that isn’t “your” team. Too each their own.

National Championships in a single sport than Clemson has in their entire athletic department.

I didn’t bash Clemson in any way - until you TRIED to insult me. Oh, it didn’t work.

The reason you hear “SEC, SEC” at major sporting events often (like in the most recent football natty), is because we don’t share your view of conference pride. Obviously.

Clemson fan here.

So, who should have been in the National Championship this year besides Alabama and Georgia?

As for basketball, who should be ahead of Auburn?

If there is a problem with “ALL’’ the SEC teams ranked vs other conference teams, then said teams should beat the SEC, then problem eliminated.

I don’t understand all the SEC hate. Beat them then there’s nothing too discuss!

Go Tigers!

2024 orange level membermilitary_donation.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

And to answer your first question: Bama

Jan 30, 2022, 2:03 PM

and UGA were the only 2 obvious teams. Cinci didn’t belong. Michigan got spanked AGAIN by an SEC team. Seems like every year they lose to a middle tier team - this year it just happened to be the best one.

There was a large drop off after Bama and UGa.
