SCDOT Championship Road Sign

Mar 3, 2019, 8:00 PM

I scored this supposed limited edition sign last night at a charity auction. Anyone know more background on these? A state legislator donated the sign for auction, so I'm assuming its part of some swag package provided to them by the state. Either way, happy I snagged it. Now I need to go hang it in the backyard, angled just enough for my Tide fan neighbor to enjoy each morning when they open the blinds.

Not the same sign as in your pic, but on the way back from Atlanta yesterday I slowed down as I crossed back into SC on I-20, and there it was, stuck behind some trees at the Welcome Center exit for the few who slow down to look for it to see, our new Natty sign!

Almost everybody slows down there because of the steep rise on the SC side of the river. Highway rises over 250 feet after crossing the Savannah.

I figure that sign in N Augusta is going to get more eyes-on time, particularly from SEC fans, than any other location.

Gotta love it!

DOT employees can buy them for $20. I think they are $50 or thereabouts for general public.

Couldn't find anything about them online aside from a similar one that had been listed on Ebay from the 2016 season.

Pickup location?

Looking to order one. Can it be picked up at any SCDOT or only the dates, times, locations listed? Anyone know?

I'm curious about ordering one as well, as I've had a couple people ask where to get it? No mention on SCDOT site.

I ordered 6. There's lots of options.

I work in the transportation industry, and thus have ordered them from a guy in the DOT.

Mar 4, 2019, 11:33 AM [ in reply to I ordered 6. There's lots of options. ]

I guess having to go through an SCDOT contact still makes it a little more collectible than something widely available on a website. I'd still like to snag a couple more.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Cool...

Mar 4, 2019, 11:37 AM [ in reply to I ordered 6. There's lots of options. ]

But how does one order? I can find nothing like this on the SCDOT site and even a reverse Google image search finds nothing. I'd like to look into getting one of those. Do you have a link?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I think you gotta know a guy

Mar 4, 2019, 11:40 AM

I can ask to see if they are doing another order.

Bought mine in a silent auction for charity. It was donated by a state lawmaker in attendance. He got it from the state presumably as part of the big interstate sign unveiling last month.

More than the guy with the DOT connection, but for a charitable cause so it went to good use. The same sign version allegedly went for $500 at a charity event the night before. I can promise I didn't pay close to that. Ha.

Wondering the same

Mar 7, 2019, 12:59 PM [ in reply to Re: Cool... ]

Whois search only says it was registered in SC, not to whom. They used godaddy.com to register it - would the real SCDOT? There is no "about" page or any contact info.

Seems like a good deal, but has a few red flags.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I did some checking and emailed the SCDOT

Mar 7, 2019, 3:19 PM

They confirmed that mysccares.org is their site and the offer is legit.

Now the question becomes how many to buy for resale once people realized they missed this deal...

How many did the SCDOT produce? Seems the site is out of them as none are offered. Going to take some big searching now. Looks really cool!

Got mine in Clemson on the 19th during all that stormy weather.Trading was brisk. They are really well done. Wish I'd bought more as gifts. Seems a lot of people just didn't know, however. I was clued in by a t-neter on the last day to order.

Re: Anyone picked up their signs yet?***

Apr 30, 2019, 9:53 AM

Somebody posted on Tnet that you could buy them through SC DOT about a month ago. There was a deadline for ordering, which has now past. Also they would not ship them so you had to pick them from a handful of DOT offices across the state. I enjoyed walking out of the DOT office in downtown Cootlumbia carrying my sign as the UofSuC students were walking by going to class.

I'm assuming you didn't get it to sell it, but if we were able to work out a suitable financial arrangement, I'd be very willing to take possession of that piece :)

Note: this verbiage has not been approved by GWP, so if we were to go forward then we will need his signoff first ;) As long as charges his billable hours to Tigernet.
