Scam Newton signs 5 year $103.8 million contract.

$60 million guaranteed. He's not that good and apparently the Panthers aren't very smart.

Maybe old Jerry needs to use Auburn's negotiator. They seemed to get a lot better deal than the Panthers.

Jun 2, 2015, 7:17 PM

Everybody knows his father got paid by Auburn. Can't change that Auburn didn't get punished for it. But that has nothing to do with his pro career. So next time if you don't like Cam Newton, just don't post about him.

Why? He can post anything he wants that is acceptable. You don't control what people post. I totally agree with him. He is a scam for what he did. Obviously, you are a Panthers fan. Good luck with that.

So I really don't care about what the Panthers do. Because as their history has bared out, they refuse to build around the good young players they have, then they became a bad team. Not telling him what he can post, but Cam Newton has nothing to do with Clemson. Also, I'm not just into athlete hate. If you don't like an athlete, why waste your time whining about said athlete all the time?

I guess another 5 years of not pulling for the Panthers. I use to attend almost all home games but when they took Cam I quit going. I tried this year to pull for them against Seattle but when he stood out on the field and stared at them that was it I pulled for Seattle. Panthers also pretty much gave up hope of winning the Super Bowl in the next 5 years. He is just not good enough to get the job done at that level.

He can call him Scam Newton as much as he would like, unless the mods have a problem with it. The NFL is a QB driven league, but if Cam Newton is getting historic money, then the Colts and Seahawks probably just crapped themselves. There's also the fact that his numbers suggest he isn't improving at, and he's still had just one season with a plus .500 record.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

He has had no supporting cast on offense....

Jun 2, 2015, 10:18 PM

During Newton's time he has had only WR worthy of NFL contract, Steve Smith and then Benjamin last year after they let go of Smith. The Panthers during his time have not gone out and got quality WR's, and they keep on hanging on to an oft injured RB in Jonathan Stewart who accounts for too much cap space. And yes Andrew Luck and Russell Wilson will get bigger contracts. It's the way the NFL works. Ryan Tannehill, who really hasn't even proved that he has long term potential, just signed a huge contract with the Dolphins. The NFL is a QB driven league, and teams are going to go with someone they know can at least be average to good over an unknown drafted in the first round.

Like you said, you can't let a franchise QB like him walk. If the Panthers don't resign Cam then the fan base would be lost probably forever. He's definitely the most marketable and nationally know figure they have ever had play for them. Now they can add some pieces around him. I think it was the right move for sure, Like him or not. He's had crap around him on offense and has two division titles in a row. Drew Brees or Matt Ryan can't say that...

In case you didn't notice, Luck and Wilson haven't exactly been throwing to the greatest WRs either, but somehow they keep improving their numbers season to season. Jonathan Stewart is still significantly better than anyone the Colts have had, and Luck's O-line is worse than Cam's.

Plus, I don't know why we are comparing Newton to Luck and Wilson. Wilson has won a Super Bowl and Luck has lead his team to 3 straight 11 win seasons. Newton hasn't come close to any of that. Newton is closer to Tannehill than he is to Luck and Wilson right now.

I get the NFL is a QB driven league (I said that in my previous post), and the Panthers had to re-sign Cam. That doesn't change the fact that they grossly overpaid for him.

Since the Panthers are stupid enough to give Scam this kind of money for mediocrity, and since the Panthers generally don't take any CU players, SCREW THEM and start pulling for Atlanta, New Orleans, and other teams ( although they probably have their own versions of this type stupidity ). All pro and college sports pay insane amounts of money to coaches and players while the people who want to go to the games get fleeced to pay for it. Look at what CU is charging for South Club football seating! I'm glad that there are people who have this kind of jack to #### away while I watch most of the games on TV these days ( and...I had 4 season tickets for 15 years in the Ford years and love being in the Valley for any game--but I sure wouldn't pay those prices ).

Scam should be dressed in a bright colored inmate suit wondering how he can retrieve the soap he dropped in the shower without consequences and repercussions. He, even, got kicked off the UF team before joining an Auburn team with even lower standards. He is world class in low moral expectations, and apparently, the Panthers are very desperate..

Jun 3, 2015, 8:40 AM

the teams in the NFL have a QB that they can win with, and the rest seem to be perpetually looking for one. If you do have one of those guys, even if it's a mid-tier guy like Newton, you just CANT let him go. If the Panthers were to let Newton go they could easily spend 5 years in the tank just looking for a new QB that's as good as Cam.

Secondly, the money really isn't that surprising. I am a little surprised by the amount of guaranteed money, but the 5y/103.8m was probably about what was to be expected. That's 20.7m a year which is about the same that Matt Ryan makes. Matt Ryan is in the same tier of QBs as Newton - he's certainly not clearly better.

Yes, this does make Cam the 3rd/4th highest paid QB in the league, and no he's not the 3rd/4th best QB in the NFL, but that's not really how it works. If you look at the list of QB salaries, the guys making the most money are largely the ones that have signed new deals most recently. Salaries keep going up, and in a few years Cam will be middle of the road in terms of starting QB compensation.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Scam Newton signs 5 year $103.8 million contract.

Jun 3, 2015, 9:05 AM

Cam is the future QB prototype for the NFL. He is a QB that can deliver the ball as well as escape the pocket. He can take a hit on that 6'5" 260 pound body. He can also run the QB-design run plays and make a profit. Over the 5 years, his QB rating has improved and he has done more with less for the Panthers. I think he deserves his money.

I feel the most important part to understand is he is not Brady or Manning type QB. His arm doesn't impress you. The package itself, all the intangibles, is what makes him unique. In greater context, VT spent three years trying to convert a tight-end into Cam Newton. Auburn has been trying to find the next Cam Newton since the departure of Cam Newton (and that is especially with their current head coach who was Newton's QB coach and OC when Cam was an Auburn Tiger). Think of the NFL teams that tried to do what Carolina does with smaller QBs (Kaepernik in San Francisco and RGIII in Washington) and see their "success" rates. Once Cam gets more weapons to throw the ball to, he will be incredible.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

My concern is that the Panthers may have tied up *too* many

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: My concern is that the Panthers may have tied up *too* many

Jun 3, 2015, 9:23 PM

The Panthers problem has and always will be their front office. They are the pro version of Boston College, who recruit really great linemen and a mediocre collection of skill players. Cam Newton happens to be a really good QB with little to no skill players around him. Funchess wasn't even the best option on the board at the time. The WR from Auburn was still there and they passed. Its incredible if this works out.

Re: Scam is being paid like a Top 4 or 5 QB int he NFL

Jun 4, 2015, 12:32 AM

You guys are flat out embarrassing as human beings. Scam Newton.....how original, did you think that up by yourself...wow.

First off I have met Cam Newton on many occasions and he is one of the most outstanding young men I have ever met. He is one of the most gracious civic minded giving athletes I have ever had the pleasure of knowing. And I have seen many both good and bad.

Last year I had the privilege of working with his foundation on a charity fundraiser, the Cam Newton Foundation. This organization is not just for show but is doing great work in the Charlotte area and the Carolina area.

After a Panther game, Cam was going to meet kids and sign autographs. After a long game and doing his media work, Newton came out around 6:30, hours after the game and spent 2 hours with the kids. There was not a reporter or camera in sight. Then he heard one kid was late making the event and waited another hour for the kid and his family. It was almost 10PM when he finished. He did not talk to parents or the other adults, but took the kids over to the end zone and laughed and played with them. He then sent his assistant to pick up more caps and shirts to hand out and had the assistant go to his car because he had a special gift for one young person.

He has single handily through his foundation helped with homeless shelters, provided school supplies, provided a working food bank, set up homework centers and helped with foster care and fund raising for countless other charities. He spends more time that just about any athlete I know helping out.

Now many athletes do a lot of charity work and some do none. They really do not owe anyone anything. But Cam has gone so far above the call that he is inspirational in his charity work. Simply put he is one of the good guys and his foundation is receiving nationwide attention for the outstanding work.

You can call him childish names and make allegations that were never proven because he beat Clemson in a football game almost a decade ago. You can question the contract (you would be wrong and obviously do not understand the NFL) but no one is paying you money because they think you guys are great talent evaluators anywho.

Bottom line is Cam Newton does more good in a single day than most of you will do in your lifetime. So you call names, repeat baseless allegations and make crap evaluation of his talent. Why not GTFU and quit mouthing off and showing your true ignorance.
