Sad ending to Khalil Green's career

Aug 6, 2016, 8:08 AM

I know this article is two years old, but for some reason I'm just now finding out about it. What a sad and unfortunate ending to a promising MLB career. I had no idea the guy struggled with social anxiety disorder. Sounds like it pushed him away from the game he loved. I really hope he can get help someday, and will reach out to people again. http://www.stlsportspage.com/CARDINALSBASEBALL/tabid/91/entryid/2009/whatever-happened-to-former-cardinals-infielder-khalil-greene.aspx#st_refDomain=t.co&st_refQuery=/uXUzu7ifE3

Even with his abbreviated career he's still probably the greatest Padres shortstop of all time.

KG was a great player at Clemson and for the Padres, but does the name Ozzie Smith ring a bell. Everyone remembers him as a Cardinal, but he played for the Padres as well. Hall of Famer. I love KG too, but he is not in the same league as the Wizard!

I guess by that reasoning, Favre is the greatest Vikings QB ever?

no because he did nothing at Minn except hang on to a career

Aug 6, 2016, 10:15 AM

that was clearly over, cash a few more checks from desperate owners and chase skirts around.

Sort of a semantic argument. Obviously Smith is better for the career. But if we only look at the Padres tenure - it's Greene. He's not only still the home run leader for shortstops at San Diego despite only playing 4 seasons - he has hold of the top 4 single season records for home runs by a short stop. There is an argument for Gary Templeton but its based on consistency over a long career. Greene's stats were insane.

Greatest Padre shortstop would be..

Ozzie Smith for me, butbGary Templeton was great too. Greene was good, but not in the top 2.

Not starting an argument,

but Ozzie Smith played at San Diego.

Thanks for sharing this article. I had no idea what KG was going through.

And if you have never gone through it, depression or suffer from anxiety attacks please be considerate in what you say to encourage that person.

One of the worst things you can say is just get over it and move forward. That's exactly what people with the above want to do. I believe that these illnesses are passed through family genes.

In 2013 I lost my nephew to depression and social anxiety. Sometimes you reach a point to where you just don't see a way out.

Please pray for KG and millions of others who are struggling with these illnesses. They can devastate a persons life.

Sorry for your loss. That is terrible. They often use drugs or alcohol too ease their issues temporarily which makes it worse later. I am sorry for your loss.

Very sad that he involved in a false religion that gives no hope and no peace...

Zoroastrianism is the world's oldest monotheistic religion and has been around nearly twice as long as Christianity. Unless you consider all non-Christian faiths "false religions" that is not really appropriate.

Wonderful, well written article and important reminder that our favorite athletes are real people with feelings and the comments we make in public forums can be more hurtful and impacting than we might know.
