Rumors are Indiana not getting any of its top targets...

Mar 23, 2021, 8:02 AM

As Coach. Thad Matta was going to get the job; however, he didn't pass an important physical so they now have to keep looking. Brad Stevens is not interested in the job as well.

Because of their lack of getting the top targets. They might have to move to their secondary market which Brad Brownell would fall into. An Indiana native with two NCAA Tournaments in four years including a Sweet Sixteen is somewhat attractive...

I can't imagine the uproar from Indy fans, if they have to

Mar 23, 2021, 8:07 AM

settle for Brad Brownell, or anyone else with a similar resume'.

Yeah, but no one else accepts it they might have to settle for a nationally respected coach and like or dislike Brad's accomplishments, Brad does fall into that category.

Now, would Brad take the job?

The only thing with that resume, Indy wouldn't give him 8 years before he accomplished it. Just saying.

I really don't care what we do in basketball or baseball. Way above my paygrade or expertise. I do take Dabo's approach, why not us. Zero reason Clemson can't get a ring in any sport.

If he did take the job would we curse our rotten luck, breathe a sigh of relief or pop open the bubbly?

Who says he's nationally respected? I doubt he's in the top 50 names if you're naming successful coaches.

This could be a chance to move on from Coach Brownell without hurting anyone's feelings. (Judge) Oh by the way Judge, I was wrong there were two teams that made the sweet 16 from the ACC. Fl. State and Syracuse (who would have thunk Syracuse).

And who would Clemson hire? Maybe the Furman, UNCG or Winthrop coach? We will grab a guy with zero track record of winning in the ACC based on small school success + staying within the budget. Enjoy...

So, we just keep the same coach forever

1

Mar 23, 2021, 9:48 AM

because our AD is not capable of doing a search and finding another coach?

I don’t think this is how it’s supposed to work.

I wouldn't argue with him too much. The guy's a loser. He's basically Eeyore. He thinks any good coach we could hire would bail if they made us a successful team, so why try? It's pretty pathetic.

Hiring a guy with 0 track record seems to have worked in at least one other sport.

Talk about a dumb narrative...by your standards, we'd never replace any coach unless we could hire someone from a better basketball school who was already winning ACC games. Huh??

This guy thinks it’s easy to hire a Dabo like basketball coach. Clemson hit the lottery hiring Dabo. And I bet you were crying when we did it.

Wow, lots to unpack. Obviously Dabo was a lottery ticket and we are lucky to have him. I'm not saying I expect to hit that again, but it's also ridiculous to assume the only solution is a coach with a winning track record in conference. There are so many other ways to approach a hiring situation.

Regarding Dabo, I was a fan from the get-go. I was "over it" with Bowden in 2007 and it really hit a low after I attended both losses against Alabama (in the Georgia dome) and at Wake Forest before Bowden was finally fired.

Dabo's press conference was a new baseline for us. His drive and passion were on his sleeve. His confidence was visible.

Week 1, Tiger Walk was initiated. Loved it.

Game 1, a kicker moped off the field. Dabo sent him back onto the field and had him sprint off. Discipline, ownership, accountability...all instilled with that one action from a guy coaching his first game. He earned my respect (from my seat watching live in the Valley) immediately.

This is a great comparison, actually. Fresh blood, new excitement, new standards, new traditions, new style. It's exactly what basketball needs.

Who knows how good Brad could be with more elite players

Mar 23, 2021, 10:02 AM [ in reply to I can't imagine the uproar from Indy fans, if they have to ]

alot of coaches "coach" better when you have mcdonalds all americans on the squad. Kryzewski, Roy, and Coach Cal had to actually coach this year and you see how that turned out. Great players do all the work for you and you're not required to be the healer all the time like Coach Brownell is here.

Brad would be a fantastic hire for Indiana!

Re: Brad would be a fantastic hire for Indiana!

Mar 23, 2021, 8:48 AM

Also, Brad has done a better job than Archie Miller at Indiana the last four years. This year alone he has had better outcomes vs Big Ten teams. Beat Purdue and Maryland and lost a very close game to Rutgers. It could potentially happen...

Re: Rumors are Indiana not getting any of its top targets...

I mean Brad’s accomplishments speak for them selves, in 11 years he’s won not one, but TWO Tournament games! Who wouldn’t get excited about that

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Exactly!

of the flagship school in the state or was IU successful because of the popularity of basketball to the residents of that state ?

It IS like Miami football . . . . if it goes much longer, it will be ancient history & folklore about the dominance of those 2 programs & kids will have no idea what the old farts are talking about.

Which spells big trouble . . . .

Brad Brownell: Only Larry freaking Shyatt has a WORSE overall winning percentage among Clemson basketball coaches since 1975. Let that sink in. It's Larry Shyatt & then Brad Brownell.
