Just curious.
Which recruiting service are the final ranking numbers coming from?

Thanks for laying it out by position. Shows we have talent at every position for a big season.

Unless you compare it to other top schools.
Then you look at TE and sorely lacking there. On the oline, the talent is there but we're playing our lesser talent.
Leon, you should change Hunter at QB. He was rated a 2* low portal guy. Jmo.

I was looking for his portal ranking but couldn’t find it. I agree that he shouldn’t be considered a 5 star.

Everyone else is listed as their original star ranking, not how they turned out, so seems fair to me that Hunter is listed with his original 5 star. Speaking as a woman, he's definitely a 5 star cutie!

Very interesting breakdown, thanks for sharing.
Some on this board continually say "stars" don't matter, I think this says otherwise when you look at our anticipated starters for next year. I count 16 or 17 of our starters that were ranked in the top 200 of their respective recruiting cycle.
It appears recruiting for 2023 is on par with how we finished the 2022 cycle. The majority of our signings ending last year were "fallbacks" and this year, barring something magical happening will be the same. In the last 2-3 weeks, we are now on our third wave of offers going out as we struck out with waves 1 & 2 (minus Vizzina and Joseph, assuming we can hold onto him). What is concerning this that just 2 years ago, we made everyone's Top 5, 7, 10 list, and we are making very few if any this year. The "IT" factor for us seems to have faded. Regardless of reason, it has.
If the majority of our starters for 2023/2024 are already on our roster, this paints an ominous future for us. I like our chances in 2022, beyond that, I am not so sure.
I am holding out hope that several of these early signers have NIL deals that don't materialize and they decide family, future, honesty, integrity and culture are what really matters. Otherwise, I think we will be stacked with 3 star recruits. Some will say we won it all in 2016 with an elite QB and 3 star talent, which is very true obviously however...at the rate we are going, just 5-6 teams will monopolize 90% the top 200 players every single year. College football has never seen this type of talent dominance among so few.

We really have to have a strong class this year, especially defensively. We need instant impact guys on the defensive line considering what we are going to lose. We signed two developmental projects at LB last year, probably need to sign two immediate guys this year. Probably need an immediate impact guy at corner and safety as well.
Offensively, we’ll need a good RB because I can’t see us bringing back our three headed monster. We desperately need to hold onto Joseph for his skillset. We missed on our top TEs and signed a developmental guy, so we need to hit on one of the two that we sign. We likely end up with a couple of 4 star offensive linemen for this class.

I think offensive linemen are the hardest to predict how well they will do in college. The first OL taken in this last year's draft going with the 6th pick out of NC State was a 3 star and the 612th player in the nation out of HS. There are so many OL that just grow later. Heck, Zion Johnson who went with the 17th pick to the Chargers had 0 stars and not rated anywhere. He came out of nowhere. Tyler Smith who went with the 24th pick of the first round was a 3 star and was ranked the 2417th player in the nation. He played for Tulsa. That guy Cole Strange who went to the Patriots with final OL taken in the first round was a 2 star and was only 250lbs out of HS and the 3084th ranked player out of HS. They got him of of Tennessee Chattanooga. Point is, OL are hard to predict. They often mature later.

For sure. Most offensive linemen never get an experience at blocking NCAA caliber defensive linemen. It's so easy to move a 6'0 200 pound, unathletic and weak defensive linemen in high school. It's a major shock to block someone that is 6'5, 275 and incredible athletic.

Some who arrived as this or that star have improved their status. Some have not - yet.

Roster - 2022: Who among young 3* & 2* will be good?
May 17, 2022, 8:18 PM
|
|
Fine list Mr. Trotsky (I love this kind of stuff).
(?) Who in young 3* and 2* groups among the young (i.e., upcoming FR; RS-FR; and SO class) do you think will have the best chance to become the next Jordan McFadden / Ruke Orhorhoro / Kobe Pace / Davis Allen / Jaylen Phillips?
(This young 3* & 2* pool isn't very big, but these lower rated guys are spread somewhat evenly throughout the team.)
I'll start: Jaheim Lawson (if he can make it in to school) will be one of them.

I believe Wade Woodaz and Cole Turner have a shot to be pretty good.
Wade is similar to Baylon Spector, high school safety that transitions to LB. He'll have the athleticism to be as good as Baylon, just needs to get in the weight and film room.
I am optimistic that Cole develops similarly to the way Nolan did. Doesn't have an elite level ceiling, but can still develop into a major starter/contributor on a playoff team.

Beaux Collins, Antonio Williams and Troy Stellato have the ability to be effective in the slot and the boundary. Will Taylor has a chance to be really good out of the slot. Cole Turner will show up in a couple of months, but likely has to redshirt. All the other WRs are basically the same.
