Rock & Roll Hall of Fame nominees

|
|
Your 2022 nominees: Judas Priest, Devo, Pat Benatar, Rage Against the Machine, Kate Bush, Eurythmics, New York Dolls, Dionne Warwick, Fela Kuti, MC5, Beck, Duran Duran, Eminem, Dolly Parton, Lionel Richie, Carly Simon and A Tribe Called Quest
I'm no music insider, but when I think of rock & roll, I do not think of Dionne Warwick, Dolly Parton or Carly Simon. I love the music of all 3, but rock & roll? I don't think so, Tim.
I think it should've been called the Pop Music Hall of Fame. There's different radio station formats - R&B, country, pop, rock, rap, and with streaming music, even singer/songwriter and much more. But to lump all of that under "rock" - meh.... Not seeing it.
Only the Top 5 get in. My votes would be Judas Priest, Pat Benatar, New York Dolls, Devo and Kate Bush. All highly influential and groundbreaking in their own rights. Not just "popular," but significant.
Who's your Top 5?

Out of that group, I don’t have five. Judas Priest and ….that is all.

“Rock” has become al-inclusive for some reason. A Tribe Called Quest nominated for the “rock” HOF?
Of course, some morons thought Old Town Road was a country song, so…
Oh, I agree with your 5.

1. People have a very narrow view of R&R

2. Some of the non-traditional acts had a HUGE influence on rock and roll.
My 5
Judas Priest, Pat Benatar, Duran Duran, Dolly Parton, Lionel Richie
But a BUNCH on that list should and eventually will be in the RRHOF

The only ones I disagree with on the list are Eminem and ATCQ. Eminem will eventually get in but there’s absolutely nothing rock or influential to rock about ATCQ.
Maybe Bruce Hornsby deserves a rap/hip-hop honor? One of his songs (The Way It Is) was used by TuPac, after all.

Bruce Hornsby isn't a rapper but his music is just as much rock and roll as theirs is, so that comparison doesn't fly.
If you compress genres that much you get narrow silos.
Is disco rock? R&B? Americana?

You seem to have missed what I said. Hornsby is obviously qualified for a rock honor. Is he also qualified for a similar hip-hop honor?
I’m saying he is more qualified for that than ATCQ is for a rock honor…

I wouldn't argue that list, but Rage gets in later... Judas Priest should get in first

Touche. Rock & Pop Hall of Fame seems to be where it is heading. But Rock & Roll quality has taken a major hit. I heard or read that 80% of Spotify/Apple/Other downloads and sales is for music over 30 years old.
There are no or very few Beatles, Stones, Who, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, AC DC, Lynrd Skynrd, Allman Bro, Van Halen, etc. etc. acts out there anymore to recognize. Rock and Roll has truly been watered down over the last 3-4 few decades.
Dionne Warwick, Carly Simon, and other Adult Pop acts are outstanding and deserving to be in a "Pop Hall of Fame" but they are not rock acts like Heart or Pat Benatar.

Pat Benetar Judas Priest Duran Duran Devo Rage Against the Machine
That would be top 5 out of that group but last 3 are a bit iffy.
