Replacing Grantham

Jan 29, 2018, 3:19 PM

Its becoming quite clear to me that replacing Grantham is going to be alot more difficult then I first thought. Our defense and offense are both suffering with him being out. Simms doesnt seem to have much of a post game atleast he hasnt shown it this far after two games of starting. He seems to be a more of a re-bounder and a face up shooter then back to the basket power forward. We finally got to see Williams get some ACC playing time but he wasnt in long enough to get a read on his game. Grantham ball skills are missed badly! We could play small ball with Reed, Mitchell, DeVoe, Grantham, and Thomas. They would push the tempo and spread everything out being 1-4 positions all had 3 point range, with Thomas in the post to bring it all together. Now with Simms being in and not being a reliable dribbler in the open court or a 3 point shooter. Hopefully Simms can get more comfortable in the upcoming games and things will start to slow down for him. Now that Donnal being questionable for the UNC game maybe we can see what Williams can bring to the table. It would just be nice to get more help in the post with Thomas being our only post prescience. Skara and Donnal arent post players and it seems Simms isnt much of one either, maybe Williams has some post game bc we need help down low. Oh one last thing can someone please tell Thomas to stop going one on one 25 ft out from the basket its not ended well once this season not once! STOP IT!

Paragraphs, my friend, use them.

My big issue here is you stating Simms doesn't have a back to the basket post game, but did Grantham? Not to my knowledge, and it would appear yours either as you mentioned we were able to spread teams out with four different 3 point threats.

I think Simms has played great and will continue to grow, he has the physical tools just needs the experience.

Grantham didnt have a post game but he had the ball skills and the shot of a 3 guy who was playing the stretch 4. Simms has the body of a true 4 guys but not the game of a stretch 4 he doesnt have a reliable 3 point shot or IMO a reliable shot at all. When you see Simms IMO u see a guy you would think would be able to put his back to the basket do 2 or 3 power dribbles while setting himself up for a post move. Simms doesnt have the ball skills of Grantham who could take guys 1 on 1 particular guys who were bigger 4's that he could take off the dribble.

Morris, keep in mind that Grantham is a seasoned senior. Simms is a true freshman. He's not going to step in and "be" Grantham. The more he plays, the better he'll be, but, this year...he's a freshman. It is going to have to be a "team" effort of 3 or 4 guys to replace Grantham. Each of them will probably have "A" part of Grantham's game, but it won't be the complete package. The team is still good, but maybe not AS good. Keep the faith. Keep showing up at Littlejohn. Stay loud. GO TIGERS!!!!

Oh I know Im just saying I think its going to be tough hill to climb then I originally thought. Grantham rebounding, defense, ball skills, 3 point shot, and leadership will all be extremely tough to replace. Think we will have to go to more of a half court inside out post game then the up tempo, pushing, 3 point shooting team we were in the first 1/3 of the season. I would like to see more of Clyde Trapp play he seems to play good defense.

true about Simms but he is showing some nice ability and seems fairly fearless.

Simms was never going to come in and make you not miss Grantham. But I think he is doing O)K since bing thrown into the fire. But Grantham gave us a look that was difficult to deal with from the other team's point of view. We don't have that now and it will be our downfall ultimately.

You do have a lot of post prescience, in other words not

enough post presence with Donnal out too.
