New Story: Breaking down the Heisman voting: How Jackson beat Watson

Breaking down the Heisman voting: How Jackson beat Watson

The outcome wasn’t what Deshaun Watson and the Clemson faithful wanted, but the 2016 Heisman Trophy race was a lot closer than most would’ve ever thought.

This is a joke!!

Dec 11, 2016, 12:12 PM

The guys that casted their votes before the Conference Championships should be removed from the voting process. Something needs to change with this. What if Deshaun would have scored 10 TD's in the ACCCG? Once again this is a ####### joke!

Those are the voters that don't understand football, and

Dec 11, 2016, 12:37 PM

that just follow the media narrative. Wouldn't have mattered if Watson played one against eleven and still won - Jackson had run up the score against Marshall, so he would win.

I agree, but...

Dec 11, 2016, 1:34 PM [ in reply to This is a joke!! ]

Had Deshaun received all 1st place votes from those 16% that cast their vote before the ACCCG, it still wouldn't have been enough to overtake Jackson for 1st place. Basically, that 16% of the voters didn't impact the outcome.

While you are probably right I still think it's sad that deshaun has done this back to back years and has his team in the playoff both seasons. He has been disrepected by the media. Deshaum does nothing but be a model for the pefect student athlete. He graduated early and always says the right things. It's a crime that he didnt win the Heisman. I will never watch that biased award show ever again! Now im down with my rant lol.

Folks...this is just wrong in so many ways.

Get on social media and let's make these voters and ESECPN HEAR US.

Watson did his part... let us now do ours.

How Lamar won:

Fails public speaking...
Loss to Clemson...
Loss to Houston...
Loss to Kentucky...
Mother who looks like stripper...
Fails to lead team to playoffs...

And his completion % was 57.6 compared to DW4's 67.6. That will get you the Heisman every time.

This has become the most meaningless of all football recognitions. It started when they crowned a rapist and has continued with a guy whose team lost its last two games as well as losing head to head to CU. What a cruel joke.

military_donation.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I can break THAT down

Dec 11, 2016, 3:26 PM

DW4 stays in games that we are blowing people out, like Lamont did, instead of coming out after 3 quarters, and he wins the Heisman.

I don't want to take away anything from Jackson for winning the Heisman. I am sure all the candidates were deserving. Of course being a Clemson Fan , my pick was Watson.
Here is the problem. How can someone vote before the season is over? That would be like picking Miss American before you saw the talent, bathing suit competition and the interview of the final contestants. I believe the system needs an overhauling of the rules. Votes should be cast at the end of the season and after everyone has seen a video of each candidate being interviewed and asked the same questions regarding there careers. Then look at each one of the candidates record. To me that is the only fair way. I did not know before how the Heisman winner was chosen and when I discovered this after reading the above procedure, I had to voice my opinion. The present procedure is flawed.

No problem with LJ winning but did 27% not have DW top 3?

Dec 11, 2016, 6:48 PM

That seems absurd to not have DW on your ballot.

Re: I'll challenge the "nimrod" voters

Dec 11, 2016, 8:43 PM

Let's see........... so a QB that has brilliant stats, lost 3 games in his career so far ( one a NC game and one where he threw for ungodly yardage and did everything humanly possible to win ) led his team to two conference championships, led his team to two appearances in the NCAA college football playoffs to challenge for a National Championship AGAIN, did not have game breaking turnovers down the stretch that cost his team a game, graduated ( yes, with a degree ) in less than 3 years, does work with habitat for humanity, has not been in any trouble with authorities or with the coaching staff, projects himself as a model student, athlete and all around good human being and is the role person on what every player should strive for SHOULD NOT WIN THE HEISMAN? So never mind that a Heisman winner should be a team player, that it's ok for your team to lose 2, 3 or more games, that it is always about the individual stats and not leading your team to bigger goals. Is it really about be dazzled on the field or is it about being dazzled on and off the field? Am I bias? Yes, to a degree but I believe you look at the whole picture and not what is eye pleasing. Is it an end all loss? Not in the least. A tremendous amount of great players and great people have never won and in the end it's just a group of narrow minded over thinking chest thumping egotistical self gratifying opinion pushers that will never see the big picture. Sometimes the "talking heads" really down grade college football and that's when I cut the volume down or stop reading and just go watch the grass grow. I'll say that godly belief, manners, personality and leadership is the starting point when deciding on a Heisman winner and everyone in Tigertown and beyond knows that is Deshaun Watson. Now, Go win that National Championship Tigers.

Remember that 90% of the Heisman voters are "hard core"...

Dec 11, 2016, 9:18 PM

...liberals. Any candidate that exhibits traditional values reflective of integrity, honor, faith, loyalty, respect, or morality, then the candidate must be penalized for this characteristics, FIRST and FOREMOST. The reason being that these qualities mean that this person is actually a BAD human being.

The candidate that does NOT exhibit these qualities is an individual who has suffered indignity at the hands of a vicious establishment intent upon the exploitation of that person.

Plain and simple, DW4 suffered from his superior human values.

Bottom line, he is a better man for not having to be part of what has become a fraternity of thugs. I predict the Heisman trophy to become less and less relevant over the next few years.

The other QB awards appear to be a much smaller, select committee that is DIRECTLY accountable to the award's trust members. The Manning, Unitas, and O'Brien awards appear to have brought into account the integrity and character, along with the individual performance.

We have yet to see the Manning Award awarded, which DW4 won last year. This award takes into account the individual's bowl performance.

Let's see if DW4 sweeps the table this year with his performance in the Fiesta Bowl.

Good points except for your cheap
shot at "liberals." It's interesting how "God fearing" people, who can inly be conservatives, since we know that all liberals are atheists, blame everything that happens that they don't like, on liberals. I wonder if the Heisman committee has to pass a sniff test to
make sure they are liberals before being allowed to vote. Just saying.

I did go a bit overboard...probably due to Trump...

90% of the voters are liberals? Where does that statistic come from? And your definitions are, quite frankly, just plain wrong.

Thr superior integrity and character Mr. Watson exhibits - and heralded by so many on this board - transcend these sad attempts to mold everything into a myopic political diatribe.

I agree with you. Eventually, the Heisman will become so debauched that no one in his right mind will give a hoot about it.
