Can you imagine being on that C-17 crew where people are climbing up and hanging on to the plane even after takeoff?? That had to be awful, taxiing that giant plane down a tarmac crowded with people desperate to get out of the country, not knowing if you were running any over or what. What a helpless feeling that must have been for pilots and loadmasters.

This so minor, but the only thing I have ever come close like that was trying to get on a bus leaving a Rolling Stones concert to get back to the parking deck, trying to get on a train back to parking lot after ACC Champ game(which is why I stay downtown now), and trying to get back to the car on a bus from Lake Lanier in Gainsville after Olympic Rowing. And that was not for my life...just to get back to my car. I can't imagine what those people trying to get on the planes are going through.

Never should have involved ourselves in that mess in the first place , militarily .
That lesson came after the USSR debacle .
After Reagan armed the Mujahadin in the late 80's the fuse was lit for any invading force .
Religious extremism isn't a nut you can crack , with the emphasis on nut .
Jusy a tragic thing that hopefully for our kids , will now end permanently after this pull-out .

In 2009 President Obama recommitted U.S. forces to Afghanistan to combat the “resurgent” Taliban. Our 14 year old son, who was very well read even at an early age, remarked "But Dad, I thought you should never start a ground war in Asia."
We should never be involved in nation building. None the less, those videos are heartbreaking.

And the helpless feeling those stuck in the towers must have felt. At least you have hope when hanging onto the landing gear. There’s no hope when you fling yourself off 100th floor.
