Recruiting This Week: Mock Class

I thought that it would be neat to do a mock class for Clemson for the class of ‘22. I have been sitting on one or two pieces of information so that it did not get out and ruin the mock. I am going to go against industry sentiment once or twice but this is what I have been hearing, and I am going to stick to my guns. This is a mock, things are subject to change, and I will let you know if they do, so let’s go.
-Before we get to the mock I told y’all that I have been sitting on some information let’s start with Arch Manning. Manning concluded his primary 4 visits with a stop at UGA. Clemson, Texas, and Alabama also all received visits in the month of June. Based on what I am hearing Clemson leaves the month of June in the lead. I do not view UGA as a likely destination, I think that the family had connections there and they earned a courtesy visit. Texas is more of the wildcard, Sark gives them a chance, Manning likes him but I just do not see it right now. Alabama is the only school that can match Clemson’s pedigree; they are second. However, they can not compete with Clemson’s culture. Wouldn’t it also help if Arch’s favorite player happened to be the last #1 overall pick and said number one pick had reached out on Clemson’s behalf? Because that happened. A long way to go though.
-Let’s get started on the Mock Class:
-QB: Cade Klubnik (Commit) Klubnik committed to Clemson just weeks after he was offered by Clemson after the Tigers missed on Ty Simpson. He may not blow you away with arm talent but he certainly has the “it” factor. Was named the “Alpha Dog” at the first day of the Elite 11
-RB: Trevor Etienne: I of laid out my rationale for this pick in the update on Tuesday. The longer this recruitment goes, the more I like Clemson’s chances. I am really not sure that Clemson’s lead competition is known at this point, as I said Tuesday the current competition may almost be done taking RBs. He will return to Clemson for the All Inn Cookout in July.
Other Offers: Branson Robinson (Going to UGA)
-WR I have Clemson taking two for the purpose of this mock, they could potentially take 3.
Adam Randall (Commit)
Andre Greene JR: He took a visit to Clemson in the month of June with the intent on earning an offer, and he did that. He has since visited a number of schools, most notably UNC and UGA. Through a contact in Va. Clemson is sitting in a nice position right now. UNC and UGA definitely made Greene feel like they wanted him, and they definitely pitched the “Clemson does not want you” because Clemson offered later. There is one official left and I think Clemson gets that in the Fall. I like Clemson’s chances in the end, they are the dream school.
Other Offers Brenen Thompson: After reaching out, I do believe that Thompson plans on making an official visit to Clemson and Alabama in the Fall. Texas pushed for a commitment when Thompson visited in June but failed to get one.
Not offered but in-state WR Antonio Williams will certainly get a look as well, I have detailed his recruitment in other posts.
TE: Josh Sapp He is more of a newer name but David noted that he performed well at Clemson’s camp and I think that an offer could certainly be in the works.
Other Offers: Oscar Delp-UGA his mom has been telling that to anyone who will listen, Kirby won her over.
Jaleel Skinner-Clemson could make a move here, but I think that there is a higher chance that they move on Sapp.
OL: I have Clemson taking two, they could take three but I have not heard enough about a pursuit on specific target for that yet. Collin Sadler (Commit)
Blake Miller (Commit)
Names to Know: Jacob Ashley and Chase Sweigart
DE: Jihaad Campbell (Commit) Obviously a recent commit to the Tigers and this has been pretty close to done even before June. Campbell just needed to view all of his options. He informed the staff of his decision a week before committing.
Jeremiah Alexander: There was a reason that Alexander was one of the first recruits to step foot on campus when visits were allowed in June, the coaches knew what they were doing. He told David Hood of TigerNet this in his post-visit interview “I can’t say that Clemson isn’t at the top spot right now because they are. Me and my family loved it as well.” He has taken unofficial visits to Alabama, Georgia, and Clemson, while he has taken an official visit to UCF, which is a nod to Guz Malzahn who recruited him while he was at Auburn. Let’s just say my intel has Clemson in a very strong spot at the moment.
Other Offers Shemar Stewart-Oversign worthy Cyrus Moss- Oregon pushing. DJ Wesolak-There is a reason that he is trending to another school on other sites' prediction tools.
DT:
-Gabe Dindy-I have mentioned him in my last two recruiting articles and it was absolutely no coincidence either. I said that Dindy was slated to be at the All Inn Cookout in July, and that his father recently took a job at a seminary in College Station, Texas. That moves him closer to Oklahoma and Texas A&M, the two teams that are Clemson’s biggest competition, I also warned that the move would not have that big of an affect on the recruitment, all teams involved knew about this move in January yet Clemson is still recruiting him. Here is where some of the intel I have been holding back comes into play: I began to pick up returns that Clemson’s coaches were becoming quietly confident in their chances to land Dindy in January. Furthermore, returns from Dindy’s camp back that up with one person inside his camp believing that Dindy may not be able to turn Clemson down. That may seem crazy even with the move to College Station, but this is a different recruit than most you are going to follow. How many times are UGA and Alabama not among the top 5 schools for a 5 star DL, not very often, but there are not here for reasons I stated above. This is a different recruitment, some of their tactics will not work here. Mine will probably be the only mock you see this prediction in, and it could be wrong, but I am sticking to my guns and my sources here. This is a long term play, and I will let y’all know if anything changes.
-Here is where things get tricky, and to be honest this entire position is the most tricky group right now, and it is what to do with Travis Shaw. This is an absolute roller coaster of a recruitment. Shaw’s Elite Retreat visit went well, to the point he told our coaches “we lead” another point I have been holding onto. However, subsequent reports by national recruiting analysts had Clemson running third. I can not speak to how Shaw spoke to the other two coaching staffs, so I really do not know the pecking order currently. However, I can tell you that all of the national analysts “sources” are coming from one guy inside Shaw’s camp, a handler if you will. Believe it or not most “national” guys actually do not have great sources within Clemson, Clemson is one of the hardest places to get info the Tigers do not like to announce how they feel, look at Dindy above. Some places, let’s just use UNC and UGA as examples, like the attention that comes with them being the “perceived” leader, perception becomes reality and drives up attention in their books. It is just two different styles. Another guy that is worth tracking is DT Caden Curry who was at the Elite Retreat. I know that OSU believes that Curry has the potential to be as good as Breese. Alabama, OSU, and Clemson should all get officials in the Fall. He is most likely a small OSU lean, but by no means a lock in any way.
Other offers:
Hero Kanu, visited in June.
Alex VanSumeren, visited while the dead period was still active.
LB:
-Jaren Kanak: When I first brought Kanak to y’all’s attention I stated that an offer could produce a commitment on the spot. However, other big fish came calling in Alabama, UGA, and Michigan notably. That prevented the commitment from coming on visit as he subsequently saw the other schools. I do not think that anything has changed here, and Clemson feels good about where they stand.
CB:
I have Clemson taking 3 they could also take two, it just depends.
- Toriano Pride (Commitment)
-Jeadyn Lukus- I also spoke about this recruitment in detail in Tuesday’s update. Per a UNC guy Lukus has made no plans at this time to go to UNC in July, with a date scheduled to visit Clemson. I like Clemson’s chances, but UNC is still a real, real threat.
-Daylen Everette-Here is another one that I have played close to the vest. For quite sometime the industry has stated that UNC was the leader for the talented Florida CB. It does make sense, UNC’s location is an advantage for them with his brother playing and Elon and his father works off I-40 every quarter. You can see the appeal. Although based on what I have gathered, Everett is a dead heat between the two schools. If Everette has his choice I think that he chooses Clemson in the end. Others may push him to UNC, and there a good chance that happens, but I outlined that Clemson could potentially have two of Everette’s best friends and teammates at IMG committed soon. That can only help them. I will say that Everette is the guy I have the lowest confidence with right now.
Other Names:
Caleb Coley, visited in June.
Azareyeh Thomas, visiting in July.
Earl Little JR, could visit in the Fall S:
-Sherrod Covil (Committed):
-Keon Sabb: I think I have been pretty straightforward with where I think Clemson stands with Sabb. Clemson had momentum going into the Retreat and they had even more leaving the Retreat.
K:
Robert Gunn (Committed)
Confidence Level:
High: Jeremiah Alexander Jaren Kanak Keon Sabb
Medium: Trevor Etienne Andre Greene Jr, he was close to being high but not quite yet there. Josh Sapp, that is assuming an offer is produced. Jeadyn Lukus
Low: Gabe Dindy Daylen Everette The second DT take.
Have a great week Tigernation!!!

Thanks for the info. That was great. On a different note, it seems as if maybe we shouldn't even take a TE if we miss out on Delp and Skinner. Obviously I will trust the coaches though. They seem to know what they are doing.

Awesome work!
I know comparing players is nearly impossible, but would you say that Klubnik might be similar to a Charlie Whitehurst type?

Hey TN Tiger, I think that is a fair comp. Cade is a great decision maker with the ball. He also has that "it" factor that Deshaun had IMO.
