Recruiting

4

Jun 8, 2023, 11:09 PM

While in now way do I want to complain and be negative about the recruiting trail with the 2 recent commitments, I just kind of expected a bigger number of commitments after all of the hype that was coming along in the last week.

Do we expect anymore within June? And if so, who? I would say maybe that O Lineman who was holding Dabo in his picture. Forgot his name.

Mike Matthews along with Wesco would complete the WRs we need. 2 absolute studs. But as Staley came out and said Clemson is no longer an option, I think the next receiver to commit will be the last. If Alex Taylor commits, Matthews may not. Vice versa.

I also hoped to see more optimism with KJ Bolden after the visit, I’m assuming he was there. He’d be that all around athlete and extra speed we need.

3 recent commitments* 2 5 stars and a 4 star in 24 hours. Also, top TE Bentancur said he has been in contact and this class is nowhere near done.

Not exactly sure what you're complaining about, there is almost a year before the class is complete and we will probably be top 3-5 by then

I said I’m not complaining. Dang, I’m just curious about it.

Saying you expected a better result is literally complaining.

I understand what you are saying and we just need to be patient

Some of these kids will want to announce on their own timeline (moms birthday, etc). Clemson takes Matthews regardless. I’m guessing the next couple of commitments will be the CB out of Texas, another receiver (hopefully it’s Matthews), and a stud DE.

I sense a lack of understanding as to how this cycle works

Let's take Sammy Brown for instance. He was scheduled for five nearly consecutive weeks of official visits. Clemson was the second. Sammy committed during/after our visit.

I'm not saying he was wrong to do that; I'm quite happy he did. But a high school rising senior with an opportunity to be courted by five teams with a legit shot at the playoffs will usually take them all, then announce his decision. If I were in his shoes, I'd do that--well, I wouldn't travel to Columbus because I hate tOSU. I'd let UF and Bama court me.

Even guys who loved their official visit with us can still be wined and dined by his other top-four/five schools and put on the Clemson hat. And we might not know at all until signing day. And commits can de-commit.

I'd love to have more commitments but I'm perfectly happy with things the way they are. As it is, we might not get any more WR commits. Patience, young padawan.

It’s a very good haul and many will have dates or times they

Want to commit that aren’t necessarily that date. You either haven’t been doing this long or you’re a troll.

This new summer recruiting phenomenon

7

Jun 9, 2023, 7:28 AM

Summer recruiting to this extent just started last year for Clemson. In the past Coach Swinney didn't allow official visits in the summer. But he adapted to the times......so many critics ignore this fact. Anyhow we only have last year as a sample size and it went a little like this.

Big official weekend 6/3/22-6/5/22, commits came in over the summer like this:

Avieon Terrell 6/6/22
Olsen Henry 6/7/22
Ian Reed 6/7/22
Kylen Webb 6/8/22
Noble Johnson 6/11/22
Jamal Anderson 6/13/22
Markus Dixon 6/14/22
Vic Burley 6/15/22
Dee Crayton 6/18/22
AJ Hoffler 6/21/22
Stephiylan Green 6/22/22
Harris Sewell 6/29/22
Peter Woods 7/8/22
There would be 3 more additions between 7/31 and 8/14.

Now keep in mind we went into that weekend last year with only 3 commits in the boat. This year we went into the official weekend with 8 commits. So when you compare the 2 classes we're currently ahead of schedule. As mentioned earlier, there's some players that have already committed to the staff. Our staff is very respectful of letting the player go public on their own time. Some have specific dates in mind so they can have their moment. Also we're going after some big fish that will take all their official visits in June before rendering a decision.

This class will get us back to competing for National Championships when all is said and done.

Clemson doesn't care about basketball....as evidenced by Brown-L getting 14 years.

Nailed it! Heck, I'm impatient also, but this is a GREAT reminder of how it works.
