Reasons Clemson OL will be better this season..

- Emphasis after bad showing last year
- Thomas Austin (was OL coach at Georgia State) - good combo with Caldwell
- Actually able to have proper off-season conditioning
- Overall upgrade of depth of talent on OL (recent recruiting)

Thoughts?

I kinda want them to be younger though. Wanna have the same guys working together and building camaraderie. Plus getting to know each other and how they’ll react to all the different pressure they’ll get. I do think this year will be a lot better at keeping DJ healthy and opening up holes for all the RBs.

I think the camaraderie was lost due to last years off-season. Gotta have time together to know how one another will think/react.

I think some bad attitude (in a good way) from guys like Parks and Leigh (though Leigh probably won’t start) will go a long way. O linemen need to have a nasty streak and play through the whistle but be smart enough and under control to not draw penalties. Guys like these are going to be an asset. Particularly in the run game. I wonder if Leigh might get some playing time inside this year before moving out to tackle?

I think it’s widely thought that Austin is training to replace Caldwell- whenever Caldwell decides to retire…

I do. I'm also interesting in seeing how our freshman center, Ryan Linthicum progresses and see if he gets any snaps.

Well he’s doing just fine now. Who knows if he would have been a first rounder last year. If anything he got to enjoy a extra year at Clemson before heading to the pros and being a millionaire.

McFadden and Parks will be solid at OT. I’m still worried about our IOL. Bockhorst and Putnam aren’t that big and as physically imposing as you would hope OGs would be. Rayburn is massive for a center, but has litter experience.

Paul Tchio (OG) and Marcus Tate (OT) will be ready to provide depth. I believe both will see a ton of playing time. Mason Trotter as the backup center still concerns me. He’s too small to compete against elite interior defensive lineman. I’m hoping Mitchell Mayes and Tristan Leigh will be ready to contribute like Tchio and Tate will be.
