Really wish we would put bleachers on the Hill. It’s sad but…

Sep 20, 2022, 12:22 AM

It looks so dumb now. With bleachers, students could pack it in like they do the normal student section.

It’s so bizarre to me that we are OK packing out the normal student section, but we leave the hill at about 60% capacity. It’s laughable.

Put bleachers and leave a middle strip with the carpet for the team to run down.

capacity on the hill for safety.

Bleachers are a terrible idea if you care about the tradition of the hill itself for more reasons than it being full of kids on game day.

Safety? If fire happened I would rather be on that hill and have options by fleeing onto the wide open street/ field/ or each side of the hill rather than be trampled trying to squeeze through one of the portals in the North or South stands at the same time as everyone else.

Besides if they did anything I would think they would just extend the existing concrete stands permanent seating a little further on each side.

Yea, safety. Just the messenger, homie.***

Why keep the strip in the middle for the players to run down?? Why not just put in an escalator and let them ride down? Maybe add some cool uplighting with dry ice?

How about we just fire the fire Marshall who completely

Sep 20, 2022, 1:21 AM

Ruined the hill forever with his little power play.

find a way to get around that dumbassssed thinking, although having been on the sidelines for three years, I enjoyed watching kids slamming their butts on cardboard.

Seems like to me the easiest solution was to take down the frigging fence, allow coolers and admit anyone and everyone to the hill on a first-come, first-served basis free....with the goody-two-shoes police staying the he1l away from it.

This came about as a result of students getting suffocated

Sep 20, 2022, 5:53 AM

At the bottom of the hill when there is a thrilling last second win and the whole hill surges forward to storm the field. They were getting pinned against the fence. Injury settlements/lawyers likely are as much to blame.

Re: This came about as a result of students getting suffocated

There has to be some middle ground. Don't pack the hill to where people are suffocating but pack it where the entire hill is filled. Or take out the fence all together and put a break away rope and extra neon green shirt security guard.

fence now if they're at the bottom of the hill?

There's still PLENTY of people at the bottom.

Why do we allow fans to run onto the field? That's a much bigger liability than having a full hill.

Lack of forceful leadership by the student body

directed to our BOT when all that B.S. arose.

Haven't noticed it, but I'm surprised Dabo hasn't raised Cain about it.

2024 orange level memberbadge-donor-10yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Sorry, but students don't get to make decisions like this.

Sep 20, 2022, 10:37 AM

There have been issues with students getting trapped at the bottom as students rushed the field.

Tradition, cool factor, and TV optics don't trump fan safety, and no amount of student protesting outweighs that.

If people want the hill full again, then there need to be more gates nearby for entry and exit, and we will likely need to consider a "no running on the field" policy after games. Would you be okay with that?

We need sun bathers and bikini tops

Sep 20, 2022, 6:36 AM

I think the only way to get action on this issue now is for the next noon home game when the hill is 1/4 full. There needs to be a couple girls lay out beach towels with bikini tops and sun bath laying down as the team runs down the hill. They can TikTok as they do it with #fillthehill

If you look immediately to the left of the Hill, in front of Tiger Band, those seats are about 30% above capacity in the first half. Clearly some of these kids are supposed to be on the hill, but the girls are wearing white skirts and white boots so they find a way into the stands.

Sep 20, 2022, 8:39 AM

I grew up in Clemson ( Im 75 years old ) and remember sitting on hill as a kid with friends. Some of my fondest memories. There are some things you just dont change. Also remember the hill is not nearly as wide as it was back then because of bleachers added in the corners,
PS: If you can imagine this. The price of hill tickets for kids was 50 cents.

2024 purple level member flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Yes but they won't allow kids onto the hill anymore.

Sep 20, 2022, 10:27 AM

And I love the safety argument. Why would a Fire Marshall care about an open space like a hill?

Also... Why do we allow fans to run out onto the field and pile together in a big mass of people with players, coaches, opposing players, opposing coaches, etc with everyone plastered drunk?

If we didn't allow fans onto the field, nobody would get "Pinned at the bottom of the hill" because their would be no reason to be at the bottom of the hill.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Yes but they won't allow kids onto the hill anymore.

Sep 20, 2022, 10:45 AM

It's all really pretty simple. They want to do away with the hill and install some high dollar club section or suites I'm sure. These are just the preliminary stages of getting everyoner used to the idea of not having the hill anymore. Of course the part the players run down could be integrated into the engineering. Maybe some type of retractable stands or even a tunnel ove rthe hill.

Put lazy boys on the hill. Turn all of them facing the scoreboard and watch the game on the big screen.

Sep 20, 2022, 11:25 AM

You’re correct unfortunately it’s time…
I’ve been going to games for 30 years and all of the traditions involving the hill are gone:

Balloons - gone
Kids sliding on cardboard - gone
Kids sliding on cardboard wiping out an adult carrying popcorn at the bottom - gone ;)
Hill packed to overflowing - gone
Could go on and on with the memories

Put seats on both sides and leave a strip wide enough for carpet and players
