Realistic question about Cain and McCloud

Jan 25, 2015, 12:38 PM

There is no doubt that these two fine young men are talented and both possess the tools to be successful on the football field. But we have all seen examples of young men who don't translate well to the college game while others flourish .

So my question is ..." What kind of an impact do you think these two will have their first two years here? Will it be minimal or a Sammy Watkins kind of an impact?"

Re: Realistic question about Cain and McCloud

I believe both will be special in their own ways. Maybe close to Sammy or Nuk.

Re: Realistic question about Cain and McCloud

Jan 25, 2015, 12:50 PM

IMO Cain will make an immediate impact (probably not as big as Sammy), and McCloud will start off a little slow and get better with time. I think McCloud might need to bulk up some.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Probably will play sparingly this year, one of them might...

Jan 25, 2015, 12:51 PM

get RS, because we already have plenty of good WR's coming back. They are here to take over for Peake, Williams, and Ghop. Players that will be exiting over the next two years. Won't know how they will be compared to Sammy or Nuk, until they actually play in a college game.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Cain will be our leading receiver next year.

Jan 25, 2015, 12:51 PM

The kid looks the part of Sammy and I think Williams will play the Nuk 2011 role. The thing his we had no Scott, Mcloud, or Watson. Get ready to shatter some more ACC offensive records fellas!

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Realistic question about Cain and McCloud

Jan 25, 2015, 12:54 PM

It depends on how hard they work to learn the play book. Sammy came in and studied hard his 1st year.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

IMHO. Cain's impact will be "Sammy-esque" and immediate.

Jan 25, 2015, 12:56 PM

Ray Ray will be a huge impact, but will come into his own and really show out around mid season. This is just based on my interpretation of them on film, and to be fair to Ray Ray, I've seen far more recent film on Deon. With that said, there's a LOT of talent and depth already here at RB. We haven't really seen that beast Fuller yet...just wait, kid's an absolute monster. Ray Ray may need to make his impact out of a "hybrid" slot type situation. I'm just giving my opinion..we really won't know til the fall.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: IMHO. Cain's impact will be "Sammy-esque" and immediate.

Jan 25, 2015, 1:00 PM

IMO, neither of these guys redshirt. They are just too good. Cain has played WR in exactly ONE all star game and once he gets fully acclimated to the position, is going to be very good. McCloud will contribute from the running game and receiving game and maybe even the return game. Fields can play a big part in the return game as well.

badge-donor-05yr.jpgmilitary_donation.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: IMHO. Cain's impact will be "Sammy-esque" and immediate.

Jan 25, 2015, 1:09 PM

Yeah , those are great points. I also see Cain maybe in the wildcat a little bit as he played QB in HS. He WILL need to acclimate to WR, with the route running and fundamentals, but I think it's a quick transition. Ray Ray reminds me of more of a Percy Harvin type for the time being.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: IMHO. Cain's impact will be "Sammy-esque" and immediate.

Jan 25, 2015, 1:16 PM

"After the catch" is what will bring DV to our feet with Cain this year. When I say Sammy-esque, I mean he has that extra gear that ya don't realize he has until he's GONE! lol.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Hopefully, Ray Ray is a better route runner than Harvin....

Jan 25, 2015, 1:19 PM [ in reply to Re: IMHO. Cain's impact will be "Sammy-esque" and immediate. ]

and can make things happen without the use of gimmick plays that Harvin needs.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I think he will be. I'm just brainstorming based on our

depth already at RB.

We already have a good number of too good WR's...

Jan 25, 2015, 1:18 PM [ in reply to Re: IMHO. Cain's impact will be "Sammy-esque" and immediate. ]

So I don't see how they will be getting a lot of playing time when our top 4 WR's are Peake, Scott, Williams, and Ghop. Plus Trevion Thompson will be a RS freshman this year. In other words, We Too Deep, that's why Demarre Kitt transferred. Also, we use the TE's in our offense, and we can use Zac Brooks and Wayne Gallman as receivers out of the back field. Just not enough touches to go around.

Re: We already have a good number of too good WR's...

Jan 25, 2015, 1:31 PM

I agree. I think there will be plenty of rotation with our WRs, and I think Cain will get touches, especially out of 4 WR sets. He'll rotate in and make plays. Unless Ray Ray explodes in the fall, he'll be a jet sweep/hybrid/KR/PR type guy for now. That's all I'm saying, and it's purely my opinion.

Riiiiiight.

We run plenty of 4 WR sets. You just listed the first team (IF Cain and McCloud don't win starting jobs - which they likely will in year 1, definitely will by year 2).

So what happens when 1 of our 4 WRs goes down? Daniel Rodriguez? A different walk-on, perhaps?

As I told you in regards to our RB stable - You mad. Understably so... seeing as though our 3rd and 4th team guys would start to your lowsy excuse do a program, coot. Worry about bringing in WRs to your own school moreso that trying to run ours off. It's just not a good look on you, or your usc fighting Jr's. Borderline pathetic.

for playersa that haven't even stepped on a college field a gut feeling or a special talent?

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Not Sammy-like

Jan 25, 2015, 1:03 PM

but partially because we have a deeper arsenal of experienced weapons at WR. We'll have Scott, Hopper, Williams, Peake all around and healthy. That team had Nuk and Jaron Brown and that's basically it. The number of proven weapons we have at the WR position is much better today than it was in January 2011

Re: Realistic question about Cain and McCloud

A "realistic" answer to your question would be, who knows? Until they put on the uniform and actually play college football nobody knows. Some two stars go on to play in the NFL. Some five stars don't pan out.

Mike Bellamy and roscoe Crosby immediately come to mind. Wasn't kelvin grant five star?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Grant was a 3 or 4 star....

Jan 25, 2015, 1:31 PM

Crosby didn't pan out due to a lot of tragedy striking him at such a young age and the effects it had on him. If those issues didn't affect Crosby, he would have been an all time great.

Jan 25, 2015, 3:09 PM

With it. Also believe he may have been injured his Fr year. Also think he went on to later play pro baseball.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Yep.

Jan 25, 2015, 4:56 PM

I know this, and realize its not his fault. He was a HUGE talent that lived up to the billing. But things happened, and therefore, it didn't "pan out." Those are all variables that can affect young recruits. I wasn't saying he was a flop, just that sh!t happens....as with many kids.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Bellamy, Crosby, Michael Carr (before stars)

Jan 25, 2015, 2:30 PM [ in reply to What 5 star ]

some others developed slower and were good by their senior year, but made little impact until the last two years. Crosby produced his freshman year, but injury and lots of money and baseball and ...

Until, CJ Spiller, we didn't get many 5 star recruits.

Wouldn't Ray Ray fit right in at the slot position.....

Jan 25, 2015, 1:40 PM

just like Humphries. I just see him being a lot more effective after he gets the ball in his hands after a short slant route and making a lot of big plays from that position. He can also run jet sweeps from that position.

military_donation.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Yep, I think he and Cain both are gonna be

Jan 25, 2015, 5:09 PM

"big play after the catch" type play makers for now. Cain will need a little time to develop his longer routes seeing as how he's played QB in HS, and I'm thinking Ray Ray will do some work in the slot and on screens, as well as PR/KR type special teams duties with the depth we have at RB. Once again, JMO. None of us have a crystal ball.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

A lot depends on how hard they work ... Learn the play book

block and consistently catch the ball without fumbles afterwards.

Mike Williams and Tay Scott are proven big time performers.

My guess is both get looked at on return teams and make two deep as receivers.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Both guys are 5 Star talent!!

Jan 25, 2015, 1:56 PM

The big surprise is going to be Ray Ray! Oh my goodness! Everybody sees Cains talent but Ray Ray can do it all too.

Don't be shocked when Ray Ray is like instant CJ! This kid has blazing speed but makes ankle breaking cuts with another gear off of each cut. Ray Ray is going to be a guy that will be breaking records. Their is a reason all the SEC teams are trying anyway they can to stop them from coming to Clemson with Watson at QB or Cain catches a backwards pass breaks a defenders ankle and his Ray Ray for the TD.

I love Cains instant talent but Ray Ray is going to be the better between the two. Mark my words. The sky is the limit on Ray Ray if he stays healthy. Our offense should be illegal by mid season. The 28 th is going to be a circle day! Watch this Coots.

Dabo might not show mercy because of the circle remark. Ole Coot Coach is on the phone at the half begging Dabo to stop ruining his job/banner/Rings.....lol

I agree RM3 brings a skill set to this team that is not currently on the roster...

Jan 25, 2015, 2:17 PM

Played RB in H.S. just be a he is that good, that they needed him to touch the ball on just just every play - which instilled in him the vision, open-field play-making ability and elusiveness that's far superior to any WR on our roster (bc they played WR in H.S. and aren't as comfortable in the open field, making guys miss and breaking tackles like RM3).

Now, in addition to this asset, he's actually going to be top 3 fastest and most against play on our team. That's and extremely dangerous combination that will give him the go-ahead for immediate opportunities in our offense.

Cool thing is, Much of the same can be said also of Cain (who all touch the ball on EVERY play - thus giving him more open field play-making experience than any of our current WRs will have even upon leaving for the NFL. He's touched the rock eel over 1,000 times.

Scary. If you're going against us, that is.

Jan 25, 2015, 2:11 PM

Many folks here might need to pump the breaks. I would not expect much from either next year. Their Sophomore year though is when they should pay dividends. Both guys will play positions behind some studs. I think both could contribute, but they shouldn't be heavily relied on next year unless Williams or Scott is injured. Both guys need to add weight.

Jan 25, 2015, 5:03 PM

I followed Artavis Scott's career here very closely because my friend taught at his high school. Artavis was really good. A real burner. But as far as notoreiyy, Cain and McCloud have more. I know that doesn't mean a thing, but I'm just trying to put it in perspective, fwiw. Actually, didnt we have 2 commits over scott who decommittrd and went to Fla and Tenn before we took Scott?
