several good venues for "real country" music and some 60's/70's rockers around. don Gibson theater in shelby, NC, the newberry opera house, wahalla performing arts center and the opera house in Abbeville. have seen ray price, mel tillis, john conlee, mickey gilley, larry gatlin, bill anderson, rodney crowell, jerry "iceman" butler, leon russell and others i forget right now. sadly, price, leon, and tillis are gone now. going to see moe bandy and tg shepard in walhalla soon and john berry (seen him a couple times, he's fantastic) in Abbeville.

these type acts know their crowd, they don't blow your doors off with volume (well leon did). total pros who just love to perform. almost all hang around and do meet and greet, sign autographs, etc. And tix are pretty reasonable.

who wrote and originally recorded the song. He is shown there in the audience and in the photograph behind Gene. Anderson is a South Carolina native, born in Cootville, no less!
