Former Clemson standout gives back to hometown

Former Clemson and current Cincinnati Bengals defensive tackle DJ Reader was back in his hometown this weekend to give back to the community. Reader returned to Greensboro for a 'Back 2 School' event to give out donated backpacks, food and autographed cards to an estimated 250 kids in his community. Read Update »

Reader's story is truly amazing to me. Of all the defenders

we have had, he wouldn't even have made my top 20 as far as my thoughts on him having ANY pro career, much less the obvious success he has enjoyed. Dabo, once again, was much smarter than us, and kept him on the team even as he was going through whatever the emotional / mental problems he was having at the time at Clemson. I seem to recall he was very close to giving up football altogether at one point. From there to here truly is amazing.

I am really proud of Reader! And, yes, Dabo is always smarter than we are sums it up nicely.

I believe he was on the baseball team the fall of his freshman year, but never played. I spoke to him in lot 5 after a FB game and he was walking from DV to baseball practice. Nice, respectful young man.
