The evidence is mounting that the coots struggle with the maths. First they’re excited about losing by only 3 TD’s and now they’re defining $295 short on the tip as “a misunderstanding”. I’m beginning to suspect that there is no one over there that understands what the number thingys on Muschamp’s checks mean.

Delivered for 9 years, and my boss--and i--would never have let this happen. So a couple observations, besides the obvious, that most people do not know how to place large orders in order to get good results!

1) delivery driver must be coached not just where to deliver the food, but who will sign. If you settle for the first person you see, you might find $5 to be generous.

2) tip should be agreed upon before delivery at time of order being finalized. I made lots of large deliveries, and it's very bad form for the driver to be uncompensated or looking like he's looking out for himself. He/she is the face of the restaurant.

3) Papa Johns statement affirms their continued commitment to serving GamecocksOnline. Does that mean they had previously cut off service as an initial result of the 'misunderstanding'? And how are Gamecocks Online and football department related? Are they one and the same? If so, i can promise you that PJ threatened to cut them off unless action was taken, i.e., Ray or Moos had to give up the CC# for a decent tip. Too bad Coots will not get makeup press for doing the right thing, since they were already guilty of doing the wrong one.

I figured they took care of the misunderstanding with the employee by firing her for making a big customer look bad. Though I’ve never been in the service industry to know how protective a restaurant is with its employees when they have been slighted.

Going online with such should result in a termination for the employee. Even though the mom or stepdad did it; it was controlled by the employee, who more than likely signed a form saying they would not do this or get into the secret sharing with competitors (pictures of process/marketing ideas).

Don't know where you got your information, but there are no such agreements signed with restaurant or delivery employees. This is just something you found in a Personnel Manual for a manufacturing corporation.

I use to deliver for Chaennelo's and Papa John's. Also, saw similar stuff as a server.

you would think that's how the world works but in 2019

Re: Ray Tanner acknowledges pizza receipt pic is real

Apr 7, 2019, 8:12 AM [ in reply to Re: Ray Tanner acknowledges pizza receipt pic is real ]

I used to deliver for Papa Johns in Clemson. We had the football team post game order, which I delivered on many occasions. We also had many other university group orders since Papa Johns had a contract with Aramark to be the exclusive pizza delivery service for university groups that had to order through Aramark. I don’t know what this Columbia Papa Johns does to compensate its drivers, if they work the same way as the Papa Johns in Clemson, then this story is kind of blown out of proportion. Delivery chains, in addition to minimum wage, also provide additional compensation to drivers based on either a flat fee per delivery (usually around $1 per, which would be very bad for a $2000 order) or a commission based system (Papa Johns clemson was 7% of sales). The clemson football order never tipped us, but it was such a large order the driver made over $100 on the delivery based on the 7% commission. That made the driver’s day (a really good shift would be $80 in tips), and also driving into/under the stadium during a game was pretty cool. Also, at least with the football order there was nothing to sign for since the whole thing was contracted in advance. Other large university orders might tip, which was of course appreciated, but usually the commission alone made the order a windfal for the driver.

So it’s possible that this driver made $140 in commission. That said, writing $5 as a tip on the line is more insulting than no tip at all. This driver was hauling 200+ pizzas for this order.

+1 for the insight of how it it works at Clemson. However, I do find one flaw in your conclusion, that uscjr would be smart enough to set it up the same way.

The biggest reason Tanner & Co seem to be constant victims of bad PR:

They are not proactive enough to earn good PR. Very simple.

Why wasn't it built into the total,

Apr 7, 2019, 6:23 AM

The same as when a large party enters a restaurant? It's lunacy to let an issue like this put either party in an uncomfortable light.

Then again...I have to consider the customer...their location...and their tailgate and post-halftime practices. It's not PJ's role to 'coach' their customers up! :)

Most restaurants have a policy of adding in the tip automatically for large groups. They should do something similar

Did anybody read this statement from Joyner>>>“Not a chance. I would have gone anywhere else in the country,” Joyner said. “I would have gone to Alabama or Clemson (to play another position). I came here to play quarterback and that’s what I’m going to do. I know my coaches believe in me and that’s that.”

Re: Ray Tanner acknowledges pizza receipt pic is real

Apr 7, 2019, 8:39 AM

I WILL say that I would not tip a delivery guy 20% on a pizza order. These guys aren't setting anything up, keeping glasses filled, etc. But 10%, yes. Of course, I'm a cheap ******* so I'd drive over and pick the order up rather than give somebody a hundred bucks for driving a pizza a mile and-a-half.

How do you keep Gamecocks out of your yard?
• Put up goal posts
What does a Gamecock grad call a Clemson Tiger grad in 2 years?

Seeing the coots try to rationalize this is pretty funny

Apr 7, 2019, 9:09 AM

Saw somebody say that you don't deserve more than 5 or 10 bucks for delivering pizza a mile and a half down the road. I think this guy is struggling to grasp the concept of a $1900 order. Even at $25 bucks a pizza that's 76 pizzas. Loading and carrying 76 pizzas anywhere is a considerable amount of work.

Also saw somebody claim that the pizzas were accepted by an associate nutritionist (or some such thing) and they only tipped 5 bucks because the pizzas were delivered too early and would be cold by the time they ate them and there may have been something screwed up with the order. Ok, that's great you are the big bad associate nutritionist and you want to make a point. How about you just give the drivers their tip and let your AD or somebody else handle their dissatisfaction with the store manager in an adult manner. I think threatening to take your business elsewhere would be more effective than stiffing the kids delivering the pizza.

Also, it just doesn't make any sense that this wasn't all paid for in advance with tip included.

that.

Ours are on the sidelines helping coach up kids and lure recruits. Theirs are getting stiffed on massive pizza deliveries.

So far apart.
