Rank our four greatest catches

Feb 18, 2021, 5:42 PM

Unfortunately, half the membership on this board will not appreciate the elation us old timers had with the first two.
I list them from oldest to most recent.

“The Catch” against USux in Columbia
“Catch Number Two” against USux at Clemson.
Nuke’s “4th and 16 against LSU.
Our Tight End’s one handed catch from Deshawn on our last drive against Alabama.
Hunter’s last second catch against Alabama.

All of those that you listed were awesome. The first one that you listed did not win a national championship but, boy that one was a thing of beauty. I feel that it gets lost that the play was on fourth down.

I need to correct myself. The catch was on first down.

Completely remember “the catch”

Feb 18, 2021, 6:14 PM

Or a usuck fans call it “the push off”! I remember elation of that as well as Hopkins catch and many from Watkins as well. Ross has had some plus sized pulls but I can’t put the latter in the same category with my initial thoughts. If I had to insert anything in the greatest catches it would be the time Jaime Harper came out of the backfield and relinquished all thoughts of safety to go horizontal with the ground while stretching his body like never before for a touchdown!

Who caught the 4th down pass that Chase Brice threw to save our season?

Love this stuff! Exactly what happens

Feb 18, 2021, 6:45 PM

When our team has finally shut up all naysayers and finger wagers. Desmond Howard before DWatsons Natty kept saying, “need to see the hardware.” Guess what, Clemson shoved it up his rump and continued to wave the banner and it seems the end is not foreseeable!
So this is us now. We are on top and we get to love our team with this talk! Reminds me of how good we have it.

list. By greatest, I mean just physical impossibility. I always called it Hunter Renfrow's "Spider Man" catch. Ball was thrown WAY behind him on a crossing route, AND was thrown early. He seemingly turned his whole body backwards at an inhuman rate of speed, just after coming out of his cut, and snagged the ball out of the air. I don't have a clip, but anyone who saw it on video will know just which one I am talking about.

Re: Rank our four greatest catches

In the most recent era our greatest (recruiting) catches:
T Lawrence
D Watson
T Etienne
N Hopkins

If you’re talking pass receptions, your five are four pretty good ones! (As my engineer friends tell me on my math skills “you must have been a social scientist major!”)

I did have the privilege to see the first two catches in person! My wife (now of 50 years!) was getting her Masters at SCar, she stood in a cold November 1977 line (6 months pregnant) to get us Carolina student section tickets. We were the only Clemson gear wearing students in our section! Our despair turned to elation with that magic catch!

Fast forward to the 2000 game, our 22yo son is a Clemson senior and we witness Gardner’s The Catch #2! We still tease our son that he was at the Catch #1 game as his first Clemson Carolina game and just doesn’t remember it!

Go Tigers!

The Catch # 1 Made me a Clemson Fan. I must explain. I was born and raised a Gamecock Fan. I married a Clemson Girl in 1968 and we Joined IPTAY and went to Clemson games and Carolina too! I wore Garnet and She had on Orange. After the Catch and the Game was over and we started out' My Wife was verbally abused and I truly thought I was going to have to fight my way out. When we got out I was totally converted and never looked back. Never pulled for them again. We have now been married 52 years and I'm still a Tiger!
