Race Norming in the NFL

Jun 4, 2021, 11:17 AM

Did you all catch this story?

Up until today, the NFL has been "race norming" cognitive tests, which assumes black players start with lower cognitive ability. This reduced the likelihood of a payout to black players, as a result of brain injury:

Teams will need to start testing rookies for baseline brain function before they sign a contract - which won't be well received.

Are some brains damaged by football? No doubt, but what percentage? We'll never know. But they get to sue anyway?

What if Laremy Tunsil sued for cognitive decline? Would his marijuana use be declared irrelevant as a cause of brain damage? I'd love to hear the lawyers argue over that one.

Do some people who never played a down of football develop cognitive decline? Absolutely. Who do they sue to get a check?

Lawyers will be vultures with all the new rules coming out in the sports world. I guess that is an oxymoron "lawyers will be vultures".

Not an oxymoron. Vulture is a SYNONYM of layer.

Only the female vultures are "layers".... :)

I don't totally agree with the suits, but I think they've in large part been due to players/attorneys accusing the NFL of knowing head injuries/concussions can lead to long term health issues, and not sharing that with players. It wasn't that long ago where a player could be knocked completely out, have an obvious concussion, and be back in the game a few plays later. Now, how much did the NFL actually know about how dangerous this was? I have no idea, but I believe that's where the suits have come into play.

I'm not sure a current player would have as much success suing in the future since so much is now widely known about the risks, and with the NFL doing so much to change the rules and guidelines around when a player can be cleared to play following a head injury.

That sounds too reasonable.

But systemic racism doesn't exist.

I don't understand how this could be?

Based on standardized testing (SAT) the norming would be correct. It’s not racism if it’s true...

Good thing there is no racial bias in standardized testing.

I see what you're doing there, but this was an established gaffe by Biden during a speech.

I mean, Trump once said on April 18, 2016

"I watched our police and our fireman down at 7/11 - down at the world trade center right after it came down"

I can put that on a image to show he clearly has no idea what Sept 11th is as he thinks its where he gets his diet coke and beef jerkey.

Yep, chocolate chocolate-chip paste-eating Joe is just as sharp now as he was when he finished at the bottom (but not last!) in his law school class.
there has been no cognitive decline.

I mean, I've read some non-sense on this board, but this comment literally is the most nonsensical thing i've ever read.

You ok bro?

Thanks, Chris! They ask you to repeat it like 20
minutes later in the same order! Not a lot of people can do that.
