Quick grill question. RecTeq

Jun 12, 2021, 6:57 PM

Wondering if anyone has recommendations or experience with the Recteq grills out of Augusta ga. Look good but can’t shop them in store. Direct to buyer. Compared to Traeger the prices and quality look better.

Welcome any feedback/thoughts/experience with em

I’ve had a RecTec grill for about 4 years and like it very much. It works well for everything except when I want to REALLY smoke meats. You can smoke with pellet grills but it’s not a heavy smoke (true for all pellet grills). The reason I selected a RecTec instead of a Traeger was that my research suggested that RecTec was better at high temperature searing than Traeger. Not sure if this is true but I read it in several reviews. Hope this helps.

Thanks! So issues doing ‘normal’ grill stuff like steaks, burgers etc on it. That’s my worry as well. Searing and normal use vs smoking

Worlds great for everything except heavy smoking. In my opinion, flavors are much better than gas but not as good a charcoal. It also holds temperature very well.

still in business I'd recommend them. Never flares up....put the meat on and close the grill . They made a killer product.

Bought one in April, for the money, nothing compares to it , solid smoker all the way around, you’ll be glad you did, and the customer service is first class,

Highly recommend. Ive had one for 5 years and have no complaints. Great quality and makes smoking almost dummy proof. For high heat sears you can get sear grates, but I just use a cast iron over the standard grill grates and it works wonderfully. Mine tops out around 500-525 depending on time of year.

Traeger user for over 10 years. Did lots of homework when it came time to renew. Bought a Recteq and am completely happy. Changed mainly because of the materials used to make the Recteq, can't go wrong with stainless.

Living in North Augusta I let our chefs use mine during the Masters this year. We have a Traeger we had been using but due to low numbers of guests this year we didn’t get it out of storage . They swore by the Traeger but after using my Rec Teq they went back to Portland Oregon and ordered the big Rec Teq for their restaurant. I guess they will want to use mine every year. lol

Not me but the hospitality group I work for brings 4 or 5 chefs each year. One of the perks is getting to eat some of the food they cook.

I have a Traeger at our lake house, a PitBoss at our beach house and a RecTeq at our mountain house. 2 of my chefs like the Pitboss overall, but my newest chef likes the RecTeq. My driver likes the Traeger but he cooks like a pig in heat. The chef at our Colorado house says he hates pellet grills and will only use microwaves for smoking.

I own three. A 680 at my farm near Clemson, a 590 and 700 at my home in Aiken. Best grill on the market in my eyes. If you are driving distance to Evans, Ga it is well worth the drive to go to their HQ store.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I went to the RecTeq fest last month.

Jun 13, 2021, 5:34 AM

Grills are amazing. I would definitely say they are better quality then the Traeger. I spent quite a lot of time talking to owners of these grills and everyone swore by them and the coustomer service. They also swore by the temperature controls and pellets.

On a side note....I currently have a very inexpensive Pit Boss pellet grill. I find that the smoke is not exactly to my taste. Food served at the fest was similar....not enough smoke.

But as folks say....this is the same for all pellet grills. I choose to stick with my Pit Boss for now since the smoke on the food was similar.

Got a 590 this year and can't stop using the #### thing. I also purchased over other options, including Traeger, after research for the price/service/build advantages. Have friends that have other brands of pellet grills and all seem to like theirs, but after using I think Recteq is the way to go. The shipping company beat the hell out of the packaging, didn't notify me of delivery date and left it out just prior to a rainstorm, but apart from one minor dent at the leg socket (easily fixed), the grill was unharmed.

As others have stated, you won't get as much smoke, but you will get smoke well into the meat, and you have less risk of an overpowering smoke that with wood/charcoal. If you're looking for more, you can always run a tube or chip box. What I like is I can set the thing and go do other things. I've started it from a jobsite using WiFi and had the GF put on the meat, so dinner could be done at dinner time. If I really, really want to do my pork butt right and don't care if I have to get up in the middle of the night to fix the fire or get of the pool to figure out why I'm high/low and do lots of math on the approx finish time, perhaps I'll use my Weber Bullet - I love that thing for what it does, but I've had some interesting cooks, especially when I've needed to leave the house.

Perhaps someday I'll have someone build me an offset wood setup to get more authentic. But I doubt it now that I have the Recteq. It covers more ground than any other grill I have, and does it all very well, requiring the least effort on your part. Very easy to keep "clean" as well.

You won't regret getting one. Recommend getting the grill grates (thru RT or GG) and you can buy a cap for the drain to keep the bugs out. I firetaped the lid as well. I bought the RT cover to make sure it was tight, but there are cheaper options. The forum is great as well for tips.

I live 2 miles from their HQ. Their customer response is like no other, seriously. I have one at the lake and am very happy with it. They had to add the q to the end of their name because of legal trademark issues. Traeger and Recteq are both made in China by the way.

the bullseye works great for "normal" grilling like you would do on a gas grill but I also smoke pork shoulders, brisket and ribs on it. They do have good customer service

If you search on YouTube there’s some great grills you can make yourself out of car/truck rims. Incredible tasting steaks, seafood & veggies ?? right off your homemade car rim grill shop!
