Question... if a player enters the transfer portal

Is it like declaring for the draft? Meaning they can’t come back. So are Feaster and Smith definitely gone or are they just testing the waters? Honestly, I can see Feaster leaving but Smith is just hard to understand.

The players are just testing the waters and can come back to the team.

My question is does the team have to take them back? Can the team "give away" the players scholarship to another player (say someone else in the transfer portal)?

Scholarships are year to year, so yes, Dabo can decide to rescind the scholly (it happens in many programs around the country, e.g. usuc under Spurrier), but that doesn't seem to be Dabo's preference, unless there is trouble, and I have heard of no trouble from these guys.

This Transfer Portal thing has to be dialed in some

Yes, players can enter it and take their name back out if there are no takers. Problem is that the Portal is always open. It’s hard on coaches trying to create rosters and offers.

Herm Edwards has taken the approach that I think all schools should consider. Basically if you enter the Portal, we are not holding your scholarship. It doesn’t mean he is being an asshat but it’s telling the kid that as long as you are loyal to our program, we will be loyal.

I would have zero issues w Dabo taking this approach. Whether or not kid has been a problem, should have nothing to do w holding scholarship if they enter Portal.
