Question for the board...and the bored
May 13, 2015, 3:51 PM
|
|
I saw one of our ACC brethren sites do a series of stories about covering football as a writer...best stadiums, best road trips, best press box food, etc. Would that interest you guys at all, or should I concentrate on more recruiting?

Some sort of road trip preview would be fun. I'm going to the pizza box in September (plus bourbon trail). Things like school tradition, local bars/restaurants, tailgating, etc would be useful to know.

I'd love to read any story you write, you have a knack with words. We get a good taste of recruiting so why not something a little different? Thanks for asking.

I would like that. I'm always interested in the impression that other stadiums, atmospheres, etc... leave on folks visiting.

Sure. But David, what would really be cool is some articles
May 13, 2015, 4:03 PM

|
highlighting big Tiger victories of the past in which former players spanning all decades of Tiger football comment on these games -- and give their perspective--like Treadwell talking about making the kicks in 86 and 87 against Georgia, or Homer Jordan telling us about the Orange Bowl scramble at the end of the game, or Jeff Davis talking about what it meant to stymie Herschel Walker when he came to the Valley in '81, etc.
Keep up the good work!
Go Tigers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

that would be a great interview as that game put us on the map. I would rather here about Bowl games prior to 1977.

If they are football related then I will only read 10% of each. It will go something like.
1. Clemson... Overall Clemson separates itself from the league with....everything
2 - 14. TLDR
Great Article.

I'm more interested in recruiting but it would be nice to have an article on the teams stadium we play each week as a weekly thing. Just to provide some background for Clemson fans who are traveling and have never been to our foe's stadium. I know the usc write up will be short and not sweet.

grump?
How everything started with this site with him and bmeist, maybe some insight into why his brother enjoyed playing with 2x4's so much...some of his favorites posters of all time. What google offered him to take down LBODs, favorite food/place to eat in Clemson, whether he thinks only alumni can be true fans...you know, things like that.
I for one think it would all make for a fascinating read. And include plenty of pictures!

David, great idea! I think it would be great to hear from former players, what they are doing, living etc. Not necessarily those that had NFL, MLB, NBA careers, but those that wore the Paw with pride and moved on to "normal" lives. Just a thought!

I love every aspect of Clemson football. What I'd love to see is stories and interviews with some of our older players. Guys like Wayne Mass, Buddy Gore, Jeff Bryant, and some of the other greats. Find out what they've been doing, relate stories of their playing days, stories about their times with Coach Howard, and Coach Ford. Things like that. Just a suggestion.

Well you did ask so here goes: I want to read about things
May 13, 2015, 7:13 PM

that don't show up on the stat sheets of these athletes that, to me and hopefully many, are just as important as a TD or a sack. One example someone posted here was that a lady in Tx had to do the internet thing(forum post or whatever) just to tell the folks what a Tiger did for her and her child. I do not recall the story but I know it was a typical story untold that makes Clemson special. She said he(CU Grad) spent his own time with her child and showed a sincere interest outside of whatever fan-day norms are/ were. She was simply astonished at the genuine care and class he showed.
It seems this off-the-stat-sheet contribution to the community is all too common not to be heard more often. It is a catch 22 because if one speaks of their own contribution then it negates the intent of the good deed itself. I know I'll make it known when and where I see it no matter what school he/she went to.
Does anyone know that story out of Texas? I sure wish I could find it. The world could use a few more folks like this Tiger she spoke of.
2 things my mom steered me with were "Don't be common" and "Suit yourself" that come to mind most often.
The lady in Tx was saying this Tiger was not common. The 2nd suit yourself was for the ultimate guilt trip and I'm certain that if she had had Bin Ladin's cell phone number he would have turned himself in within 2 minutes of a suit yourself session from mom.
Well you did ask, right?
