Question for atheists.

It’s Easter week. As Christians we celebrate the gift of grace through Jesus Christ. He is our hope, our peace, and our assurance. For those who do not believe, where do you find hope and peace? I absolutely promise it’s not a snarky question. I’m just genuinely curious. I have a huge day at work so I’ll “hang up and read later”. Thanks everybody.

I would classify myself more an agnostic, but for me, I find peace & tranquility & hope when I'm out in nature, alone, surrounded by the trees, the grasses, the shrubs, the creatures, the water, etc. Where I can hear the animals calling to each other for different reasons. Where I can go to think & reflect on life & what is going on at that particular time, whether it be personal, local, or global. Cheers to a wonderful Monday!

There is always hope. Every day is a new day. I guess I am kind of an atheist, because I know the Bible and all organized religion is absolute bullshyatt. On the other hand, I don't worry about what happens after death. Also, I don't mind Christians. It seems like the belief in something helps a lot of these people out and gets them through tough times or even makes good times better. It's probably a relief for some to pretend they know what happens after death.

I lean towards being an atheist. It's pretty simple. That said, It's not shocking that you are in a cult. You are the same as a scientologist, a nutty Muslim who thinks he is getting virgins, a nutty Mormon, etc. You're no different. It's not surprising.

Nah it's just him. I don't mind Christians. I am just playing Devil's advocate. He was a jerk about me not believing. He is knocking me for not believing in some organized cult. I don't mind if someone wants to believe in a harmless cult and that's what Christianity is in 2021. There is no danger from it in the modern era. It's just odd to me that he finds it crazy that I don't believe in being in a cult. It's just not rational for me. He can believe in it. He is kind of a jerk about it. He should just believe in his stuff as he does and realize that not everyone is into being in a cult. I have had a bunch of Mormon friends too in that cult. They are great. They never seemed to care that I didn't believe it though.

I won't knock you for not believing but I will ask, where is your hope? If someone you love was gravely ill, where would you seek comfort? If someone you loved was murdered, would you not find hope in an ultimate justice? I'm not being critical of your views. Those are sincere questions.

the after life and didn't take time to enjoy this life that we have.
When you believe that this life is the only one you have and there's nothing else, it makes you look at this life and the events in them differently.
When somebody I'm close to passes away, I don't sit around thinking that I'll see them again sitting on some cloud.
I enjoy the time I have with people now. Because once that's over that's over. All I will have left of them is the memories we made. There's no "next time" to make those memories that help me get through the grief. And that, in itself, helps.

That's one of the hardest parts. I have so many people I have loved that have died and I realize that was it and I will never see them again. That was that. Makes me sad that I didn't take the time to visit more and be softer and to appreciate the time more....to slow down. I am working on it with the ones that are left. I saw my younger brother a couple of weeks back and we gave each other big hugs a few times and really appreciated each other. You want to let them know. It's hard sometimes for people that aren't touchy feel types that don't generally want to show a sensitive side.

If someone was murdered that I loved I would feel like there was nothing bringing the person back and that any justice to the murderer needs to be done here on Earth now in reality. As far as people dying or that were gravely ill. I have had people gravely ill. I have a lost a lot of friends, all of my grandparents, my Dad to cancer.. Religion doesn't change anything. It's nature. We have some control over it by living healthy, scientific breakthroughs, or just good medical care . You just hope that the situations that happen work out well. It's genetics and at times up to the physicians when possible. There is always hope. You just hope it works out. It's that simple. That would be great if there is an afterlife, but we are just hoping and making that concept up. I respect that others believe in it though. If it makes them feel better I think it is great.

But your following question after that statement hints that you think the only option for hope is in a magical wizard sky daddy that you think those who don't believe in will spend an eternity in hell.
There's plenty of hope to be had outside of the cult of Christianity.

Honest question, when you wake up on a random Wednesday in, let’s say September, and you really want to hot that snooze button, or a car cuts you off on your morning commute, do you start to get mad then think... “wait wait wait... Easter.”
I guess I just don’t understand the question. What situation requires peace and hope that reminds you of Jesus on the cross or the resurrection any time outside of Easter week?

As much as we talk on here about some people whose actions dismay or dishearten me - I find hope in humans and peace in nature.
If we read the hyperbolic and sensational news, it is easy to find the worst in humans, but if go out in the street, I am always buoyed by everyday people and their kindness and resiliency. I love to eat outdoors and just watch humans interact with each other. I cannot help but have my hope for us restored.
I find peace in nature. I believe that natural laws (not a god)guide our lives in a general way and whenever I get out in nature I am reminded that those laws are just - and I am at peace with their pathways and limitations. There is nothing better in life that the good, tired elation of sharing a meal or a couple of drinks with friends after a long, hard bicycle ride out in the woods.
The dominance of social media and this dammed virus have reduced my ability to contact these touchstones lately, but spring is upon us and I start getting my shots next week so hope (& peace) spring eternal . . .

Beautiful words. I enjoy very similar things. Nature draws me like no other. We would obviously have a different experience with nature , mine brings Romans 1:20 to life, but nonetheless a peaceful experience. Awesome time of year to get out right now!

"forgive our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us" to me is pretty solid advice.
Dwelling on the past, desiring to always even up the score, etc. generally does not bring peace and hope for better things.

I control my destiny as much as possible, and don’t believe the Bible has any influence on my daily life, hope, peace or prosperity.
I’m glad that others can find peace through religion. It just didn’t resonate for me. I enjoyed all the teachings and good deeds, but never connected with the ‘faith’ portion.
