Question for all the anti-vaxxers and/or non-vaxxers...

Once the FDA fully approves the Pfizer COVID vaccine, which is expected to occur sometime this week if not later today, does that change your opinion about getting vaccinated?

Axing for a friend.

I am more concerned with the unknown long term side effects. So give it 5 years for data collection and I will have enough information to make an informed decision.

Post this to the Covid Board, not here!

That said...

It will definitely make a difference for me. I have not been vaccinated, but found that I have covid anti-bodies when I donated blood back in May. I was never sick, so obviously my immune system worked. I have never had a flu vaccine either, and never gotten the flu. So, I have no sense of urgency about a vaccine for my own safety.

But if there is FDA approval, I will consider getting the vaccine if there is even a likelihood that it could prevent me from unwittingly passing along Covid to someone else. I am around a number of elderly folks every week, including my mom who has dementia, and I would hate to think I could be asymptomatic, but carrying a virus at some point that I pass on to someone else.

I am aware that none of these vaccines stop either infection or transmission. But if data shows they might increase protection of others, I would be willing to get vaccinated.

It will not do what you say...it doesn't keep you from passing it to anyone. Not sure how it protects anyone else...I would think it could make you more likely to pass it if you have very mild symptoms, or are asymptomatic and so continue on as normal yet still carrying a large viral load that can be transmitted to others.

The vaccine significantly reduces one's chances of passing

COVID to others, based on the simple fact that vaccination reduces the risk of getting the virus considerably.

There is no evidence it reduces the chance of getting it. That isn't what any vaccine is designed to do. They are designed to reduce the symptoms if you do get it. And only for a specific variant. I would never tell anyone not to get it if you feel so compelled, but at least know the truth about what it is and what it isn't.

Well when the guy who created mrna says to not get it imma probably listen to him. Also you do realize that getting the vx only helps ur body fight it off it doesn't prevent u from getting covid or spreading it. So that being the case you really have no arguement towards me getting the vx except to keep me alive. It doesn't affect anybody else weather I get it or not. My body has already fought off the virus and I didn't have any major symptoms so I think I'm good. It's not about being an anti vaxxer. My kids get vaccinated and I have been as well worth vaccines that have been studied and proven to not have horrible long term side effects.

You made incorrect statements here...

according to the data available. The vaccine certainly does limit the chance of one becoming infected. The efficacy was higher against the alpha variant (>90%) vs delta variant (data still being gather but looks like >50%). It seems like a lot of people are confusing the efficacy being under 100% with "doesn't keep you from getting".

Also, vaccinated people that do get infected stay highly contagious for a shorter period (lessens the chance for transmission) meaning the viral load measured in the back of the throat goes down much faster.

Where is this data you are coming up with? Not everybody who gets covid gets tested. If you have no symptoms you probably won't get tested. So you can be vaccinated and have no symptoms but still have it and spread it without getting tested. That said even if the vaccine does work the doctor who created mrna says it will cause spiked protein ths potentially will shut down ur organs in 3-5 years so I believe I'm good on getting the vx. It's hard believe any data available when you get ur post deleted on social media for saying you had side effects from getting the vaccine. Of course they are gonna make the data look in favor of getting the vx. It's a sad truth and I wish it wasn't the case.

I'm not trying to be insulting, but so much of what you said doesn't even make sense. But I'll try a few.

"Where is this data you are coming up with? Not everybody who gets covid gets tested. If you have no symptoms you probably won't get tested. So you can be vaccinated and have no symptoms but still have it and spread it without getting tested."

The data comes from studies using controlled groups. Everyone in the controlled groups are tested and the data, you know, is controlled for various variables. The data is available on-line if you really want to do your own research. If you honestly can't find it using Google, let me know and I'll help you.

"That said even if the vaccine does work the doctor who created mrna says it will cause spiked protein ths potentially will shut down ur organs in 3-5 years so I believe I'm good on getting the vx."

Well...not to sound like an ####, but no one "created m-RNA"...m-RNA is something that is found in a cell...called messenger RNA. I guess you mean to say the person who created m-RNA vaccine technology? Anyways, here's an interesting article on this subject:

https://www.theatlantic.com/science/archive/2021/08/robert-malone-vaccine-inventor-vaccine-skeptic/619734/

I'm curious, you seem to rely on the data that the "creator of mrna" says not to use the vaccine...have you done much research to prove/disprove that information?

"Of course they are gonna make the data look in favor of getting the vx. "

Who is "they" and to what end?

They meaning the big corporations and government controlling the world. If you post on Facebook about having bad side effects from the vaccine it gets deleted. So I personally do not trust fully all the studies you say prove the vaccine is safe and works effectively. That is why I ask you where the data is from. If you are talking the cdc then sorry but I'm not believing it 100%. About mrna yes obviously I was speaking about the technology brother sorry for not being specific. I'm no scientist nor claim to know a lot about the subject. I just listen to people who do know a lot about it and plenty suggest we not assume this is all fine and dandy. You can't pop up a vaccine in less then a year and assume it is safe to use on millions of people. If I was at risk of dying from covid then maybe I would consider it but I am not.

Also dont worry about insulting me. I know who I am and where I stand on the situation and I'm perfectly fine with you getting vaccinated and believing that it is safe because some data supports that. If every scientist in the world advised people to get the vaccine I still wouldn't because I have been exposed to covid multiple times and have not gotten sick from it so it's pointless for me to get vaccinated.

Wow that guy sounds like a whiny little beeznatch to me. I guessing his opposition to the vaccine has more to do with him not getting the credit he believes that he deserves than with any actual scientific objection

He isn't the only doctor warning us about the potential side effects. I just am not worried about dying from covid enough to risk dying from the vx 5 years down the road. Whether what they are saying is true or not I have been exposed to covid and haven't gotten terrible ill from it so getting vaccinated is pointless for me imo and that is all that really matters is me and my family first then I will worry about others but I'm not gonna risk my life because others say I should.

your fear of dying from the COVID vaccine?

Is it based on scientific research you've read, or just fear of the unknown?

Other things we are exposed to daily are much more likely to shorten our lives, including components of our food, water, air, etc. But we accept these unknown risks.

There are plenty of doctors who speak on the spike protein this vx will cause that can cause organ failure. That is enough for me to not get a vaccine that I don't need anyways.

waiting on the Novavax to be approved by the FDA. It is a vaccine using the traditional technology used to develop. The new vaccines formulated by the mRNA technology have too many unknowns for me. When the Novavax becomes available I will take it.
