Question about FSU vs. LSU.

Aug 4, 2022, 8:57 PM

First an apology: I try not to post much about FSU. This is a Clemson board. I know, and understand, your disdain for the Noles.

Now, for my question.

I tend to be optimistic. I am growing more and more optimistic about FSU's chances of winning that game. A few months ago I would have said I would be surprised if they won. Two reasons:

1. Reports are that Noles finally have an OL that is not paper mache strength. Travis may actually have time to throw.
2. Depth is finally getting to a reasonable level. The drop off form 1s to 2s and 3s is not nearly as severe as the past two years.

But, the main reason is
3. Reports are that LSU really doesn't have the LSU talent they need. Reports are that if their QB play is only average or slightly better they may not even make it to a bowl. I see some folks saying they will finish below Bama, Ole Miss, MSU, aTm and Arkansas in the SEC west.

Does FSU have a chance? Might they even be a slight favorite at kickoff? Or am I just channeling my inner-coot and living in fantasy land?

LSU has Kelly, Kelly has some decent players left over & has recruited & portaled wisely.

Plus, if the game is in the Valley then the smell of corndog breath from fans may be overwhelming.

LOL~

I hope y’all beat them like a rented mule.

I don’t know anything about LSU this year. I do know that Kelly is a #####.

But your OL has got to be a LOT better. I feel like folks throughout the college football world have not acknowledged how weak the FSU OL has been for the past six years. Ya’ll essentially had no chance in a lot of games. I do see that you finally recruited a couple decently rated OL guys, but these guys are going to be freshman and redshirt freshman. I hope your OL turns the corner and ya’ll win every game every year except Clemson.

I assure you, Nole fans know how weak our OL is. I think we have 2 or 3 transfer portal guys starting this year. Last year our depth was so bad we had to play a true freshman at tackle. We only had about 7 guys who could considered better than awful and injuries forced coaches to just pick out the five healthiest guys and figure out who could play which position. This year it looks like we are 10-12 deep. Our 12th best OL this year is probably better than one or more of our starters last year.

Hoping y’all win easily . . .

but my expectations are not very high at all . . .

I hope y'all lose every game this season. Then the admin will hire Prime Time Deion Sanders and return FSU to greatness.

LSU has recruited better, it will be an upset if FSU wins but I hope they win 50 to 0!

We need you to win this game for the entire ACC . The league teams have to start winning out of conference games.

ACC! ACC!

Aug 5, 2022, 10:02 AM

Too soon?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I'm not sure LSU will be particularly good this year,

Aug 4, 2022, 10:08 PM

especially in that division, but i think they still a good bit more talent than FSU. I hope y'all win, but I'm not really expecting it. Aside from Clemson, when does the ACC ever win these early season games against the SEC?

If it were a neutral site or Tallahassee- I’d like the Noles chances better…

Vegas has kept it a single digit point spread which means you’ve got a shot…

But a night game in Baton Rouge doesn’t bode well…

I’m not overly impressed with Jordan Travis and his ability to get it done in an environment like that….

Game is in the superdome. Lsu obviously will still have a huge crowd. Next year in Orlando.

Game is at Superdome, NO, not at Sick Glen (there's only one Death Valley) so that should help. FSU has sold out it's 30K seat allotment.

Bengals ain’t got much left after O’s departure. He didn’t recruit well and Kelly’s flash dancing newbs ain’t there yet. None of this even addresses the weird Kelly LSU marriage. Midwest guy all his life and suddenly he fits in 3rd world and proud of it Baton Rouge? When LSU steps on their wiener, be there to punch’em in the mouth. Kill’s all don’t worry about god sort in’ them out, cuz the gators already ate’en.

It would be nice to see LSU (and Brian Kelly) fall on their face this year. Thanks Brett, for sending us into the weekend with a happy thought!

I think with the transfer portal, the fun part for teams that use it a lot is that you have no idea how big of a jump your team will make each year and it creates more optimism and hope due to the unknown. Based on what I’ve seen during the Norvell era, I would expect them to be better this year than last, I just don’t know how much better. And if you look at the overall team talent rankings for this year, LSU is still number 5 and if you couple that with the addition of Brian Kelly I think expecting, or being optimistic about, a win vs them this year might be a bit much too soon. People can say what they want about BK and his silliness but the man can flat out coach. Giving him that kind of total team talent to work with should be scary to the SEC, silly season is almost over and I think BK is about to remind a lot of people how good of a coach he is. That said, if you’re gonna get them you are in the right spot to do so, get them early in year one.

If I was betting my own money I would pick LSU, I just think they have too much talent and better coaching.

LSU has too much speed and strength
