Question?

Oct 3, 2017, 1:02 PM

If ESPN doesn't want another CU/ALA match-up. Do they want ALA?

Main question -

CU and ALA win out, does the committee rig it so they play in the semi final?

It's possible I suppose, in 2015 we got Oklahoma when I thought that Mich State should have been the weaker opponent. It feels like they almost try to give BAMA the nod for the easier matchup when it comes to this sort of thing. I don't think they will play Clemson vs BAMA in a semi-final unless either one of us losses though. ESPN would be worried about BAMA losing, and not making it back to the ship. This year could be the tiebreaker, and as a Clemson fan, this matchup won't get old for me for a while. I can see how it gets old for people following other teams, however.

Actually, If I were working for ESPN, and a Clemson vs Bama rematch seemed likely, that's how I would market the game. As the official tiebreaker over the last few years.

Yes. I think there is no way the cfb committee will allow a Clemson-Alabama rematch in the national championship game. The NCAA wants good ratings just as much as ESPN does, and another rematch of the best two teams in the country will not provide the desired ratings even if the rematch were to live up to the hype.

Then I guess we're screwed. ESPN always takes care of Bama. If we win out, there is no way they can legitimately leave us out of the playoff. If they do, then the playoff will lose all credibility, and they will lose more ratings over the next few years than they ever will with another rematch. If it came down to them and us, they will choose Bama though.

Seems like the first 2 games were good ones

High ratings, great games til the end. Why wouldn't the family of networks not want more of that?
