QB Analysis- 46 hours of film study

Oct 23, 2017, 8:55 PM

Things I don’t know: everything outside game performance.
Things I do know: Bryant isn’t bringing much to the table if he’s hurt. Cooper is Not accurate down field.
I watched every crucial downfield pass from Cooper bounce in front of the receiver vs Wake. I also went back and watched every single throw vs Syracuse. Had Renfrow not saved two inaccurate throws downfield the stats would have read 1-5 on throws over 7 yards with two 15 feet over the receiver. He even airmailed one behind the line.

I don’t know if HJ would have done better. I do know his Saturday performance doesn’t warrant 50/50 second string snaps it warrants the back up role all to himself until he has one game throwing like Cooper.

Totally agree with your assessment. Just like Dabo said about the kicker. He’s great in practice and sometimes it takes time to take that to the field.

I’d also like to see more reps for Tee. I just see him being awesome on the 50/50 balls downfield. Especially the next time Cain drops a legit catchable ball.

Message boards are for posting opinions. Doesn’t mean you’re not all in.

I’m with you on Higgins. I think if we really got HJ to a point where he was getting significant snaps you’d see all those talented wide receivers crushing it. It’s so frustrating to hear in camp you’ve got 9 NFL guys out there at WR and we don’t play our best shot to get them the ball even when the veteran guy gets hurt.

I'm with you on wanting to see more of Tee. I just don't buy it when some of the guys are getting more reps than Tee. I mean...I understand they dont technically play the same wr position, and theres a system and some guys have been in it longer, but at the end of the day you have to play your most talented players. Period. I dont see how thompson and chase get more snaps then tee, regardless of position. Tee could play all over the field if he wanted to.

Agree. Whatever is going into playing time decisions, its

something other than what is happening on the field.

So you watched the second half of the Syracuse game 92 times?

Ha. That’s my marketing degree trying to get a little more conversation started. It worked. I really did watch every single throw with notes on each to see if I was off on my assessment of Cooper being less than average. I was not overreacting.

^^^ So you're saying ZC didn't get any

Oct 23, 2017, 10:23 PM

3rd downs when we needed them to survive, by passing.

Right?

No, I said I went back and watched every single throw and took notes on each and he was terrible at passing down field and was saved by Renfrow from his stats looking like his passes.

Not really 46, but my close friends have mentioned I need a hobby. Clemson football is my hobby, although at times it’s more frustrating than golf.

Rewatching a game, or whatever, is fine.

You spent the equivalent of two days breaking down film for a game you won't play in, or coach.

Perhaps a tad much.

But you do you guy.

See above...the 46 hours was just thrown out there to get some conversation going. It worked. Doubtful anyone chatting here has a perfect football/life balance. Shot low 80’s at Thorneblade Friday and attended daughters dance class Saturday. I’m ok.

Don't backtrack.

You said you did 46 hours of film study. That's a VERY specific number to just throw out for no reason.

If that's your thing do it and own it. Don't worry about what I say.

Stop telling me where you play golf, what you shoot or what you do in your spare time.

You're obviously a little concerned you're spending too much time on it, otherwise you wouldn't care what I said.

It's all good dude. I wouldn't spend that kind of time on it...but then again you probably wouldn't spend the time doing some of the things I do.

46 hours seems far to specific just to get the ball rolling. To each their own.

You couldn’t spend 46 hours on Cooper, that’s like two hours a throw. You seem to have your stuff together though so what are some things you’re doing other than watching football. Maybe I’ll try some of your stuff.

If we're talking 46 consecutive hours...I've never done anything for that long.

If we're talking 46 hours over time towards one goal...I've never done anything for that long.

Now, if you'll please excuse me, I've found something shiny I need to go inspect.

2 things i know for sure

Oct 23, 2017, 10:42 PM

1) Cooper is not very good right now. That could literally change tomorrow. Sometimes the "light" just comes on.

2) The coaching staff does not care one bit about my opinion.

1) you’re right, hope it does, but hope HJ gets in there more too.

2) agreed, that’s why we are talking to each other. At some point though when the whole fan base starts seeing things differently than the coaches on a particular decision listening happens.

Re: QB Analysis- 46 hours of film study

Here are the facts:

Zerrick Cooper has completed 75% of passes 9 yards or less from the line of scrimmage. Cooper has completed 27% of passes 10 yards or more from the line of scrimmage.

Hunter Johnson has completed 90% of passes 9 yards or less from the line of scrimmage. Johnson has completed 50% of passes 10 yards or more from the line of scrimmage.

This is from my post over a week ago after watching every pass thrown in games by both ZC and HJ. More details can be found in my earlier post:

I like your effort. I just don’t think there’s enough sample size from Johnson to fairly compare them head to head. I confident saying Cooper looks bad and Hunter may be a lot better.

And here i thought i wasted a lot of my free time***
