Q for folks with hand nerve pain

Lately my hands are giving me the Heebie Jeebies. Numb, unable to make a fist. Pain like I never felt before.Doctor wants to cut me. Suggestions? TIA.

Doctors know about those things, and IMO, they will do what's in their power to give you comfort if that's possible with whatever it is you're experiencing.

If it is an impingement of nerves, tumeric added to your food or mixed into OJ can reduce the inflammation and Allowing the pain to subside
But to have permanent relief you need to find the source and correct that
Poster, shoulder alignment, eliminate Repetitive tasks that can overuse a joint etc
Surgery is easy and quite profitable for drs
Exhaust all other means of potential correction before going under knife

I had a devastating hand injury at age 35. Doctors told me the only way was to deaden nerves in my hand,no feeling. Could cut fingers cooking/preparing food or do anything and not know it.Didn't have it,now at age 62 Turmeric and Cinnamon are how I get by.

Have you seen a neurologist? A rheumatologist? Your pain could be caused by a wide number of factors. My wife has pain in her hands (and other areas) that is a result of spinal stenosis. That was only discovered by a neurologist who ordered a cervical spine MRI.
And I don't want to sound like a conspiracy theorist, but always get a second opinion. My wife was diagnosed by (presumably) competent doctors 1st with Sjogren's Disease, then Lyme diseases, then Fibromyalgia, before we got to the neurologist and he discovered the spinal stenosis. Many doctors today are pressured to see as many patients as possible. As a result, your prognosis it typically the first thing that pops into their minds after that 10 minute consultation.
On final idea to consider before surgery. See if medication can deal with that nerve pain. Lyrica is like magic for my wife. Best of luck to you!

go to a neurologist and make sure there isn't a cervical issue.
Probably weeks/months to see a good one. If so, see a good acupuncturist and see if that helps. That will tell you if pain is neuro or structural.
I had a quadruple cervical fusion 7 years ago and my only symptoms were pain down arm and losing strength/ function in hands. I battled that for years before having surgery.

followed three weeks later being involved in a car wreck, which totalled my car and which threw me badly into my driver's door.
A week later I noticed pain and numbness in my left hand and arm, which now has moved into my right side. I attributed all that to arthritis, which is common in the paternal side of my family, and to older age. Thus, I haven't seen a doctor, only taking aspirin if the pain gets rough. Only seems to be bad during colder weather.
A friend, who is a Nurse Practioner, said it seems like some type of nerve damage, perhaps repairable with surgery. Never being much of a complainer, I decided to take an occasional aspirin.
You might have to follow the doc's advice, especially if you're having problems with motor skills along with excrutiating pain. Best wishes to you.

Possible that it’s Cubital Tunnel syndrome .

Basically, the nerve that travels to your hand may be pinched when going through the cubital tunnel in your elbow (the “funny bone”).
This would cause a lack of electrical signal to the hand, and usually affects the thumb and the two outer fingers.
I had surgeries on both hands, about 6 years apart.
Had a cast on for 1-1/2 weeks, then just rehabbed squeezing a stress ball in the months after.
Worked for me, but, of course, I don’t know if that’s your issue.
The way I found out was the electrical pulse test, which measured electrical signals from the shoulder to the hand.
My electrical signals were only about 40% of what they should have been.
This caused my muscles in my hand(s) to waste away over time.
If this is your issue, don’t wait around for surgery.
Saving the muscle you have left is crucial to recovery.

Go to a Orthopedic Hand Specialist get a 2nd opinion

Orthopedic Surgeons specialize. A Hand/Wrist Specialist is a highly trained specialist because there are so many nerves, veins and arteries in the hand/wrist. Other Orthopedics are really not qualified to operate on hand/wrist.
