HJ15 wanted to come back as a GA. Dabo talked him into coming back for his last year of eligibility.
Why? Strap on that tin foil hat tight! Dabo is preparing for CK to take the job from DJ. DJ leaves and there is no depth to the QB room. Boom - HJ15 wanted to come back to Clemson as a GA but now you have him for serious depth in case CK passes DJ and DJ transfers.

I hope that is not the case.... with this defense coming back, we just need a decent offense. They don't have to win the games, they just don't have to lose the games.
Let's pull for DJU.... hope for some improvement, let Cade put some meat on his bones and learn the system. Let Hunter get some 4th quarter mop up time.
We advance to the playoffs next season and go from there.
Cade takes the reins in 2023 and in 2024, takes down UGA.
Hunter is a GA for 2023.

We need to hope that DJ settles down and improves which I think he will do. Plus, our WR and OL need to improve and get healthy. This stuff about DJ transferring would be the worst outcome. DJ looked pretty good last year when he was throwing to someone that would get open and actually go catch the ball. It is rare that a freshman is TL16. Does Cade even remotely look like TL16? TL16 is 6"6' and has a canon hanging off his right shoulder. It really would benefit Cade to settle in for at least a year and get stronger and learn the O before we have to count on him to churn out wins for us.

Tell him that and he never commits to us to start with. A 5 star Qb as good as CK is not going to commit to a team that tells him he will ride the pine as a frosh. You tell him he will compete for the starting job and if he is better you give him the job. Let the loser pout and leave or stay and support the team.
DJU will leave if he is not the starter. Dabo knows that and thus HJ is the answer.

What I like about bringing HJ back as a player is that it is a net positive in just about all scenarios I can imagine.
1. CK takes the starting job and DJU leaves - HJ is your solid backup with a great team attitude.
2. DJU starts but gets injured and CK is ready to start - ditto; you can't count a hurt starter as depth.
3. DJU steps up and CK is OK with understudy for a season - HJ brings experience and perspective to the QB room and both DJU and CK get a boost from his presence.
4. We have another fluke injury year and end up with DJU at TE, CK at FS and still someone decent to take the snaps (just kidding on this one!).
And in all cases you're developing a young man who wants to be here into a powerful candidate for a longer-term contribution to the program.
What's not to like?

for something like this - it's not like DJU transferring is out of the realm of possibility, especially if he doesn't win the starting job. My son has been telling me since mid year that DJU is going in the portal after CK wins the job in August.

DJ wants to play baseball so he may just stick around once he is healthy! Would live to see that arm throwing strikes for us!
