I'm not even going to argue with you because it's not like it's even remotely possible that he's coming back anyway....
So we'll just leave it at that.

I have always been a BB fan.. but I can tell you right now..
Mar 7, 2015, 6:03 PM

if you take the athletes we have.. and put BB beside OP and say choose
love Brownell... but after watching this for 5 years, I'm taking OP
that's not to say BB can't eventually get it done here... hope he does

You see our press in this game?

OP would have been in the bottom of the ACC. (With the players we have now. Chances are OP would have recruited different players so the example may not be a great one)

you can't look at our press and compare it to OP. That was/is his identity. He believed in speed the game up and taking more shots than your opponent.
Agree or disagree... coaches have identities. Pitino is probably the best at coaching and winning with the press.
Under OP, it dominated how we practiced and was our identity. You can't compare us jumping in it occasionally to what it was under him.

stayed at clemson and then was not surprised when he left; just pizzed at the how.
i wondered if he went for one more pay day? he's not that old[early 60's], but he might not want much either. my bro-in-law went purdue undergrad, depaul law, but never mentioned op at all - good or bad - and he's a huge college hoops fan.
depaul's a tough job with high expectations and has had its share of casualties, since its hey day and especially during the big east years; it ain't no day camp.
will be interesting to see where op lands or if he lands anywhere again.

he won more ACC games in his last three years than any team not named Duke or UNC... and you are calling out fans who are grateful for that? You even use "fans"...
what the hell does that mean?
are you disputing what he did here? Are you saying if he had stayed, he'd have the same record over the same amount of time that he's had at DePaul? Surely not.
I don't understand

Based on how he left AND his record at Depaul, he should never be let back in Clemson city limits.

Why does his record at DePaul matter?
Everybody wanted Danny back after Arkansas.

He did a great job eventually rebuilding Clemson

but the way he left and the fact he's a program builder (who seems to have lost that ability) would point to wanting him back at Clemson as a mistake.

back... most people you are calling out simply point out that he won here, where BB has not...
that's all
I have never seen a post that said... "We need to hire OP back"

I couldn't disagree more...
Mar 7, 2015, 6:14 PM
|
|
Rick Pitino and Billy Donovan, for example, are press guys.
Pitino runs two presses, what he calls his "black" and "white"... and they run them 90% of the time. It's an equalizer.
So if I think that style of play would be beneficial, I want OP back? #####?
and yes... BB has won... but NCAAT drought has to end

We will agree on the last part.
Mar 7, 2015, 6:18 PM

Getting back and making runs into the NCAAT is why Brownell was hired and if he doesn't in the next two years he's gone.
agree to disagree on wanting the press back.

yep... and I agree with your point about being right behind
Mar 7, 2015, 6:20 PM

the big boys... I think that's mostly true..
what's killing BB is the early losses to teams we shouldn't lose too... OP never had that problem.. Even the team that started 17-0 and didn't make the dance only lost ACC games...
I can't put my finger on it... if it's style, motivation, etc.... but there's something that is preventing us from just putting our foot down on people that we should.

Yeah, losing to winthrop and Gardner-Webb shouldn't happen

My biggest frustration with Brownell, as I'm sure many others feel, is with recruiting. I think he's been hit with some bad luck and his main recruiting coaches leaving, but I'm surprised we haven't been able to find at least one or two better shooters.
I think Brownell's frustration with this team's offense is going to force him to change some things he does in recruiting. Even OP recruited some players that didn't fit his press framework because they could shoot (Olgesby being the big one) and I think Brownell is going to have to do that.
The weird part with Brownell's recruiting is that his teams at wright st and wilmington, they had better shooters.

Brownell's problem is we've not gone to the next level
Mar 7, 2015, 6:15 PM
[ in reply to Wanting his style of play back is wanting him back ] |

We are right behind the big guys in the ACC which puts us about where OP always had us, we just haven't gotten that one player to take us into the next level. Hopefully in the next two years we do or I think we part ways with Brownell.
