Jeff Scott responds to being mentioned as FSU coach candidate

Florida State fired head coach Willie Taggart Sunday afternoon and the internet spin cycle immediately threw out Jeff Scott’s name as a potential replacement. However, Scott told the media Monday that things are so special in Clemson he wishes he could hit the pause button. Full Story »

That is a mess down there right now. Better stay at Clemson and enjoy these golden years. There will be more opportunities down the road!

I really don't think that Jeff is the type of person that would use a job offer to try and leverage more money out of the administration, I really don't!!! But, I think he maybe thinking about becoming a HC...

Is FSU right for Jeff, with all the experience he has in that area, and with all the years that Brad worked there, IMO, if he is looking to become a HC now, I think FSU would be the perfect place for him without an open HC-ing position at Clemson at the time. I love the guy myself, and it would hurt if he left, but I surely couldn't blame him if FSU came offering and he took the Job!!! Personally, I hope that FSU finds somebody good with HC-ing experience, and leave our Jeff Scott alone!!!

Uh, he didn't say no. I don't want him to go. Who cares what's best for him, I'm thinking about what's best for me...

So...Pretty much...

Either he would be interested, or he’s just gonna use this to get another pay raise here.

He'll get a raise regardless and maybe a bonus.

Scott is not going to comment on taking any job until after the Natty...if at all. The media needs to stop with the rumors and speculation. This is what they do but it is very annoying to say the least. GO TIGERS!!

Really wild last night watching the Warchant FSPU site. Dozens of people were chiming in and mentioning just about every coach under the sun as a replacement for Taggart, including Scott, Venables, Spurrier, Miles, on and on it went. Kind of funny.

FSU will not wait that long, they cannot with the early

Nov 4, 2019, 3:17 PM [ in reply to Re: TNET: Jeff Scott responds to being mentioned as FSU coach candidate ]

signing date. They will have a coach in place before the Dec signing date.

But is job is open NOW. I don't see FSU moving forward with any candidate who is not willing to interview NOW.

Those $50,000 a month paychecks are hard to handle

when you could get a lot more elsewhere.

After taxes,

Nov 4, 2019, 5:17 PM

It's about 55k per month.

Imagine getting a $55,000 check each month... I wouldn't know what to do with myself. Especially if I was doing something I really loved and was highly successful.

Further, that kinda money goes a LONG way in Clemson.

plus with Clemson they are usually home by 5 or 6 at night, Saban works his assistants like 16 hours a day, so they are excited to leave BAMA as fast as they can

I'm not gonna lie

Nov 4, 2019, 3:15 PM

If Scott is offered the FSU position, he should take it in a heartbeat. Having two OCs makes the loss of one way more bearable and that's the opportunity of a lifetime. Love him and wish him nothing but the best if he stays here or leaves!

And if he does leave, make Streeter co-OC, so he can be groomed to take over when Tony Elliot takes a HC job. I don't think that day is coming in the very near future...but it is coming. Next man up!

Wonder how many Coot assistants would even pause to think if given that opportunity

Same canned response as every other Clemson coach the last several years when

Nov 5, 2019, 8:26 AM

they come up in conversation about another job. "I'm just focused on the job, team, and season I have right here." At some point one of these guys is going to take another job. Dabo already knows who the replacement will be and I trust him.

Re: TNET: Jeff Scott responds to being mentioned as FSU coach candidate

Nov 5, 2019, 11:54 AM

I want the kind of coaches on our staff whom others want. In fact I don’t want anybody working for me or for Clemson that somebody else doesn’t want. I wish him the best for himself and his family. If he thinks that is Clemson, that’s great, but if he thinks another opportunity is better for them, then I hope he takes it and succeeds against everybody except us. It just means we made the right choice in hiring him to start with, IMO.
