Saw that the Voluntears just scheduled a home/home

Jan 19, 2022, 3:44 PM

with the Washington Huskies in '29 & '30

I know we have OK out there in the '35/'36 time frame and it probably won't happen (i know the possibility of the UT/UW game actually happening is pretty slim, too)... BUT...

Who would you like to see our Tiers schedule? Where would you love to go see a game?

Speaking entirely for myself...

I'd like to see Clemson schedule a home and away with Florida, Ole Miss, Penn State, and Michigan.

If we're willing to venture further west, let's add UCLA, USC, Washington and Oregon too.

That said, Clemson has tried for years to schedule a home and away series with both Penn State and Michigan. Thus far the two school would only agree on a 2 for 1 match-up meaning Clemson makes two trips to Penn State and Michigan in exchange for one trip to Clemson by Penn State and Michigan.

Washington
Oregon

So are you saying they won't agree to play Clemson unless they have a home field advantage with a 2 out of 3 series. That sounds like a set up for a bunch of pusssies!!!??????

Which is why Clemson pretty much told them both...

Pretty sure Florida has never played a road game OOC

outside the state of Florida. If they have, it has been 40-50 years

They played a neutral site game in Dallas against Michigan in 2017. That's about it.

UF plays at Utah in 2023...

They have home-homes against Colorado, Ariz. St., Texas and ND in the next several years, so that story is changing. Maybe a series is possible.

WOW! I just could not believe your stat was true! So I looked for myself...

in 2017, they opened with Michigan in Texas and lost
In 1991, They played Syracuse at Syracuse and lost
In 1989 they played at Memphis
In 1986, they played at rutgers
In 1983, they played a the real USC and tied
In 1982, they played at Tulane

Thanks for pointing out how timid they have been about playing at other teams' field. Did not realize they have built their "success" by playing home games. Typical SEC team...

Florida stopped scheduling those around the time Spurrier arrived. Classic.

Notice on my reply...they lost or tied all major programs they played (Rutgers was not big 10 then).

They have but not very often.***

I’d also like to see us branch out of the southeast for a few games. The real USC would be a cool matchup; also wouldn’t mind playing Oregon or Wisconsin.
I think all of this is just academic anyway until the after the current CFP contract expires in 2025. There is no telling how many conference/non-conference games we’ll be scheduling at that point so I’m just assuming anything that far into the future will never actually come to fruition.

First replace the Furmans and Woffords with Coastal Carolina ....

Some others that would be interesting:

Nebraska
Baylor
Wisconsin
Stanford
Northwestern
Colorado
Washington
Indiana

OOC open dates on their schedule, starting say four years out due to logistics, essentially pool their openings together (1 per program per year), and then get assigned an opponent following the prior bowl season to fill that slot for the following season. You'd have to match home/away options and such to keep it all fair, and it would obviously require an even number of teams to do this.

I played around with this a while back after the last major conference expansions took place when many programs (including us) cancelled Power 5 OOC games due to fear of the number of league games increasing. Starting only three years out, there were over 20 Power 5 programs across all conferences that could have done this, and those numbers of course only grew from there.

Essentially the organizing group would be granted the power to select the matchups along a seeded / ranked system, with some leeway for history, variety, and public appeal. Matchups would have to be within a few seeded spots from one another also, based on the just completed season's final standings, to maintain a sense of parity of equal opportunity.

It would be a great way to accomplish quality Power 5 OOC games that had more immediate relevance instead of scheduling games years in advance when fortunes for either team could change drastically over that time.

The real USC. Just so we can say we beat the real USC and the fake USC in the same season.

In this order.....

Jan 19, 2022, 6:39 PM

1. Michigan
2. Penn State
3. Texas
4. Florida
5. West Virginia - because I still feel we owe them a A** whooping!

We should trade Louisville to the Big 12 for West Va.

Say what you want about the vols, but they have a long history of going to the west coast to play an early game every year. They are pretty much the only SEC SEC school that will do a home and home with a P5 school of note. I remember playing Cal, UCLA, and Oregon State I believe in years past. Alabama has not played a single away (not neutral) OOC game since Saban arrives. So, I for one would love to see a series with Cal, UCLA, and of course Trojans. Also Tejas, maybe Baylor or TCU.

Tennessee & Florida

Would be awsome to have a home and home series with those two teams. Really thankful for our games with A&M in the past and our current slate against LSU and Georgia.

Penn State, Michigan, Oregon, UCLA, Stanford...somewhere outside of the southeast. Helps with recruiting I would think...

How about a 3-way instead of a home-and-home. Such as, Clemson plays at Penn St, Penn St plays at Tennessee, Tennessee plays at Clemson in three consecutive seasons.
