So Tennessee was not the best team we’ve played all year, but near the top.
We’re past the 1st year crap with Bakich, it’s inexcusable to lose like that vs both Tennessee and Charlotte. Because we had an incredible amount of chances to win.
I don’t want to put blame on single players for losses because it’s the whole team’s fault they are in that situation where a mistake occurred.
But Blackwell and Ammons kind of were the main reasons. The rest of the bottom of the order like Crighton and Jerrell are freshman, and have a little leeway. But Blackwell is a graduate shortstop and has shown what he can be defensively. His error costed us the Charlotte game.
If Blackwell runs harder in that double play by Tennessee that got overruled, we win the game.
Ammons missed his spot y’all. There’s no way that pitch was called to be there. He gave up the worst HR all year. The worst dagger I can remember in recent years. You don’t let that happen.
Again, I know I’m a son of bi*** for exposing these 2, but they were in their last year and they didn’t execute to the level that they had been before.
We need a new shortstop, one that can hit and defend. Jay Dillard is a fine young guy out of TL Hanna in Anderson, SC. Have heard good things, but he’d be a freshman. So there’s a learning curve.
I’m excited to see some of our young pitchers with experience next year. Darden looks solid, and Tristan Smith looks like a future starter for sure.
We did not execute to the level we have before.

down the 1st base line? Get out of here with that crap. I can assure you that young man was giving it his all down that line. Question a guy’s ability to make a play but don’t question the young man’s heart.
Did Ammons miss the spot? Probably. But it could have happened to any pitcher. I am sure the UT pitcher missed his spot as well.
It’s a game. People win. People lose. This team had a fantastic year and they lost a heartbreaker last night that hungover them today. I do think it’s pretty bold on your part to question these young men’s desire.
I guess it’s easy to be a ####### on the internet.

Ok I know I put them on blast. Just honestly looking at the main players who made crucial mistakes.
Sorry Ben and Ryan. I know you both shouldn’t hold 100% blame. As if they care or even see this.
But winning the Tennessee game changes things tremendously. Only needing one more win, and not using all of the pitchers we used. We win that game, everything is good.

This is where you learn your lesson ROY. You have posted many times that we will win the title, no one can beat us, this is the best team ever. I simply said wait until we at least make the CWS and you ranted.
I appreciate your passion, but I'm not sure you understand how hard CBB can be, and how close even lower conference teams can be to us compared to other sports. I have never wanted a baseball team to succeed more but the bullpen was the biggest question and that/errors did us in.
I appreciate you coming back and making excuses but just chill a little next time. No top program in the country is claiming titles until they get to Omaha.

I’m fully aware of the landscape of college baseball and the level of equality that comes with the sport of baseball. It’s a random game.
Yeah I outwardly went too far with my beliefs of this team. But I actually believed what I said. Hold I wasn’t the one who jinxed it.
And I pointed out in the OP the bullpen and errors (most often by Blackwell). I admitted I hate pointing them out, but you just did so as well pointing out the errors and the bullpen.

My comments during the season about our national title potential. Which was believable.
Thought that’s what you were referring to when telling me to remember this moment.

After reading your stuff since you’ve come on to TNET, I’m guessing that you have to admit to a lot of mistakes often. Don’t trash amateurs athletes!!

Played great the first game, made many mistakes against UT late costing us the W and the third game played next day with no rest started out good and just gave out at the end, sometimes things don’t go your way in sports, and in life just got to move on and learn from it

…to go to my first CWS in Omaha.
I mean, after what they did to Miami in the ACC Championship, I was a TRUE believer.
It has been a LONG time for Clemson baseball that I felt something really good was going to happen.

This is why it’s actually painful. Omaha is where this program belongs.
I can’t even say we’ll be there soon. No matter how well you do regular season or ACCT, you’re going to play Omaha teams in your regional. That is Clemson’s issue. Getting past these SEC teams in regionals. Whether it’s Monte or Erik (so far).

This is now 4 straight regionals that we've lost to SEC teams, 3 of which were at home.
2023 - Tenn 2019 - Ole Miss 2018 - Vandy 2017 - Vandy
It does appear to be the big hurdle we need to cross at the moment to take that next step forward.

Our bats got tighter as the night progressed. That’s what happened.

Should have pummeled that pitching staff. Early it looked like we would, but as Charlotte hung around and the pressure mounted, the swings weren’t as loose.
What a GREAT season especially relative to the transformation that Bakich was able to get done. His coaching is a completely different style than Monte’s, and the culture had to be remade.
Year 1. I think we’ll see another leap next year.

I think Tennessee’s pitching made us cold. We hadn’t faced that level of a staff since Wake.
I know Bakich is great, but Clemson can’t get past a regional no matter who the coach is. It plain sucks.

Tell me you've never played baseball, without telling me you've never played baseball.
Here's why we lost the game. Tennessee scored more runs than we did. Thats it. Thats the secret, but if you do want to dive deeper, we can.
We had bases loaded with no outs and a veteran at the plate with excellent bat control and we didn't bunt. BUNT the #### ball and let's go to the house!! It was one of the first questions posed to CEB in the post-game presser. I hate to say it, but this team took on JL's persona in the later innings and played very tight.
The bats got extremely tight. At one point in the extra innings the Tennessee pitcher started 12 straight batters with center cut sliders and we watched everyone for an 0-1 count. Pull the #### trigger and end it! If me, as a fan, recognizes that pattern; someone in the dugout has to see it as well.

1. Our entire pitching staff let us down, both starters and relievers, except of course for Grice. 2. A relief pitcher cannot come in and walk the first batter or two he faces - cardinal sin! 3. All players must learn to control their own emotional outbursts. 4. All of our batters must learn how to hit sliders and stay off ones that start off low! 5. Why the shortfall of experienced bench players who can hit when our numbers have been eroded?
Coaches must work on these to improve for next season!

I hate Grice couldn't finish that last out, but if we were going to make that change, I wish he brought in Garris or Hughes for the righty-righty matchup with Denton. Its just frustrating to have a handful of chances to put it away....even in extras and never did. When that much goes wrong for one team and right for the other, it just wasn't meant to be.

It without a doubt should’ve been Hughes in my mind. Ammons had not been great, and he’s a lefty.

Not correct.
The biggest thing that helped improve this team was improving fundamentals. Like bunting and at bat approaches.
Bakich and Bellanger are excellent with the simplicities.
But yes, the fundamentals cracked under elimination pressure.
