Possible adjustments to football schedule

Apr 25, 2020, 10:45 AM

What if there was a decree that schools this year could only play teams within driving distance? What would our schedule look like?

We would lose Syracuse, FSU, Louisville and UVA

If that happened, it would be great to pick up UGA, UNC, Tennessee and Coastal Carolina.

Maybe play the Coots twice?

Beating the coots already counts as two wins

You’ve never driven to Florida, Kentucky, or Virginia?

Anything you can drive in a day is driving distance.

Fanless? If so, maybe they could incorporate neutral site..

games in the bowl stadiums?

Might make it easier to bring driving distance into play? Also might allow TV/Media to set up "for the season" in certain locations that will host these games as they rotate through the weekly match ups. Security & other staffing, which would still be necessary could be maintained as well.

It's likely a big gather bringing it together, but might help in bringing other opponents into play, if half-way points are added?

Interesting thought.

Just one of many I've heard. Long, long time till September. I'm still cautiously optimistic that we will be playing a regular season with fans in the stands.

If not, I suspect there would be some "compromise" like playing a reduced season starting a few weeks later.

1. Play conference games.
2. Play one non-conference game, so school could play their rivals. (Clemson/USC, FSU/UG, UGA/GT, etc.)

But, it's way too early to make any decisions. Just throw a bunch of options out as possibilities "just in case" and then wait and see what the country looks like on June 1st before seriously considering any of them.

Goodness. The ACC would never be able to get the schedule reshuffled if they cancelled some non conference games. It would at least take them until next year to release it. LOL.

Not good for the coots as both The Citadel and App St.

I fear that you guys are whistling past the graveyard. There will be no games unless the students are back on campus, and I just don't see how that happens until at least this time next year when we hopefully have a vaccine. I miss Clemson football as bad as anybody on this board, and I really want to be wrong about this.
