Plyler's Blog: Killer Instinct

Killer Instinct

Killer Instinct
Clemson has enjoyed an unbelievable amount of success on the football field over the past few seasons, and there has been very little to complain about. One of my very few complaints is the Tigers have often lacked a killer instinct and the ability to put teams away. In se

Amen Mickey but given that track record I'm not holding my breath. We just seem to lose that edge at times when playing with a lead

I really hope that loss is what we needed to learn that we have to put teams away when we have the opportunity. If not then we will not beat Alabama.

"No one knew we were overhyped until the season started." - Classof09

He's exactly right - and the killer instinct........

Nov 16, 2016, 10:07 AM

has got to come from the top starting with Dabo - he's got to push the right attitude in terms of play calling and execution - and also concentration to stop the turnovers and penalties which we shouldn't be having so much of this late in the season.

We've got to go back to being hungry with something to prove.

I've been saying this for years. That's how Saban is so successful because he is on his teams til the final whistle. I know we have the talent and coaches, just need to play 60 minutes with same intensity. Let's Go Tigers, Beat Wake!

Our OC's are great men, good coaches but I wish they would hang with BV and pick up his style of petal to the metal kick butt attitude during the games. Here's a thought-let BV call the o plays the last five minutes of each half.

Play the 4th quarter like it's the first, what we're doing

in the 4th isn't working.

15 yard penalty for trying to get this team to play with a killer instinct

that's your first personal foul of the day.

That's part of it

however, much of this year's problems are talent related. We've lost a bunch of guys early to the NFL, especially on defense. Our LB's are decent but our secondary is average; both got exposed Sat. We just don't have the same level players in those positions we have had.
OL is just not very good. Hearn got lit up Sat (as he has a lot this year), Hyatt has not played at a consistent high level, coupled with our lack of self-scouting (and creativity) by the coaches and DW's resistance to run have crippled our running game.
This is a very good football team but there are significant top-tier talent gaps in some positions, which is pretty standard except for Bama.
I don't expect this team to suddenly turn it on. They've played in sync with the overall talent in most games.
I still contend we will win the final three games but I don't think any of them will be blow-outs.
I think we over-performed a bit last year and we all thought this year was THE YEAR so expectations were exceptionally high. We are close but just not quite at the level of last year's team. But even still, we are a national brand playing pretty good football and I'm enjoying this ride!

You should add this year's Louisville game to that list

Up 28-10 at half time, we got the kick-off to start the second half and could have just ended it, but look at the drive summaries:

Clemson - 2 plays, INT
L'ville - 7 plays, TD
Clemson - 3-and-out
L'ville - 11 plays, FG
Clemson - 7 plays, FUMBLE
L'ville - 7 plays, TD
Clemson - 4 plays, FUMBLE
L'ville - 8 plays, FG
Clemson - 2 plays, INT
L'Ville - 4 plays, TD
Clemson - 2 plays, TD (after Artavis Scott 77yd KO return)
L'ville - 3-and-out
Clemson - 8 plays, TD
L'ville - 11 plays, TO on downs
Clemson - 1 play, end of game

INT, Punt, Fumble, Fumble, INT to start the second half. Ouch.

When we drink, we get drunk.
When we get drunk, we fall asleep.
When we fall asleep, we commit no sin.
When we commit no sin, we go to heaven.
So, let's all get drunk, and go to heaven!
