I really don't like it when alumni bash the out of state population. Yes, it changes the culture, but it doesn't ruin the culture of Clemson Univeristy.
I have so many friends from out of state that graduated from Clemson and were originally from all over the place. NC, GA, FL, IL, IN, CT, MA, and myself... born and raised in New Hampshire.
I was at Clemson for 5 years before graduating last year and I'd still be living in the upstate had it not been for my major opening a door for me back in the northeast. I never missed a home game as an undergrad and attended a handful of away games. I bleed orange and look forward to the day when I can move back down south and call the upstate my permanent home.

Being a child of Clemson alumni, and my blood running orange since birth, I went to Western Carolina for my higher education. I still attended more Clemson games in one season than I did WCU games in all four years I was in Cullowhee. I still bleed orange and am proud of my degree from Western... Not everyone can get into such a competitive school like Clemson, and the kid should be happy that he got accepted into the Bridge program, because there are many in his shoes that probably didn't get even that luxury.

I was born and raised in SC and graduated from Clemson in 1984. First in my family to graduate with a 4 year degree. Job circumstances forced us to live away from SC for many years and we lived in Pennsylvania when my children graduated high school. Both applied and were accepted to Clemson's engineering program. My son decided to attend college closer to where we lived but my daughter was going to Clemson come Hell or high water. She worked her tail off and took AP classes and graduated valedictorian of her high school class. She earned a scholarship that basically offset the out of state tuition. There was no discussion of "legacy" or any type of entitlement. If a kid (or anyone) wants something bad enough to put the work in and earn it they can go to Clemson or anywhere else they want. I think a student who works hard to accomplish their goal of getting accepted may appreciate being there more than one who gets to go because they happen to live in SC and "daddy went to Clemson". My fanaticism about Clemson definitely played a part in her wanting to go there and I'm so glad we live close enough now to attend games but she did the work to get accepted and then graduate with honors.

It is the epitome of foolishness to think Dabo could do in basketball what he has done in football at Clemson. The concept is so ludicrous I am stunned that you agree with the proposition Mickey. Sad reply.
On the BC "scheme" that made us look so incompetent on offense. Give me a break. They ran the same defense they usually do and if we can't adjust to a LB lining up on Renfrow, that shows a complete lack of competence on our coaches and KB. I don't buy that argument for one second. Play-calling and effort by our offensive coaches and players was well below any standard we should have. Just be honest and move on as no "scheme" caused our pitiful performance. By the way, VT will line up a LB/Rover on our WR tonight, just like last year. Will we adjust?
I believe Clemson is a public university for the state of SC and as such, should always favor and prioritize in state students and applicants. It doesn't mean no out of state students should be accepted but all qualified in state students should be given due consideration. Wonder how many students from the NE or Midwest or wherever stay in SC after attending Clemson versus those who are SC residents. It's part of the academic elitism that permeates universities to give a student who had 20 points higher on some standardized test admission while telling a student who lives in the state that supports the school to go somewhere else.
