How in the hayull are the players getting the Covid now?

Oct 26, 2021, 12:02 PM

My daughter, who lives on campus, said the student positivity rate is 0.2% as of yesterday!

They aren't. The test is just that error prone. We are being punished for false positives. The NFL retests multiple times to verify. I am guessing we do not.

Oct 26, 2021, 12:44 PM

Don't guess. Give truth. Although I do wonder why we don't hear of other team's players missing games due to covid.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

what makes you think they don't retest?

Oct 26, 2021, 12:51 PM [ in reply to Re: How in the hayull are the players getting the Covid now? ]

part of the clemson lab's protocol is to get repeat readings. every sample is tested at least 2x times.

Re: what makes you think they don't retest?

Oct 26, 2021, 2:37 PM

Repeat testing of the same sample does nothing. The PCR test is a mess. The NFL guys are tested every day and cleared if they test negative on 2 separate days following a positive test.

The NFL rule:
If a vaccinated person tests positive and is asymptomatic, he or she will be isolated and contact tracing will promptly occur. The positive individual will be permitted to return to duty after two negative tests at least 24-hours apart and will thereafter be tested every two weeks or as directed by the medical staffs. Vaccinated individuals will not be subject to quarantine as a result of close contact with an infected person.

Biggest risk of this virus now

1

Oct 26, 2021, 12:23 PM

is getting a false positive test and being forced to shut down your life temporarily for no reason.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I wish that were true

Oct 26, 2021, 12:53 PM

However the things I hear from my wife (an ER nurse) sure seem to argue against that. Folks are still getting it, still being hospitalized, and still dying.

I'm not arguing for any particular action on you or anyone else's part, but I'd suggest you at least don't pretend this thing is over.

Yeah? Tell that to the more than 100 South Carolinians that died last week from it.

Again, I'm not here telling you what you should do with the data, but I do strongly suggest you at least recognize the reality that it's still killing folks.

I’ve had 3 people I went to school with die in the last month from COVID. Ages 52-55. All healthy. All unvaxed.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I'm truly sorry to hear that.

Oct 26, 2021, 1:24 PM

Admittedly my view is skewed from hearing about Covid positive folks still coming through the ER all the time, and I understand the temptation to just pretend it's over, but I don't get folks who genuinely choose to behave like its just not a big deal at all.

2024 orange level memberbadge-donor-20yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Right. That doesn’t mean the virus is over.

1

Oct 26, 2021, 1:41 PM

In fact, I’m a believer that it will never be gone.
It will be a seasonal virus, like the flu, and we will be dealing with it every year.

My original point, before people got all upset, was that not allowing generally healthy people to live their lives is a much more widespread problem than the virus actually harming an extremely low percentage of people.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

That "extremely low percentage" in the United States

Oct 26, 2021, 3:32 PM

has resulted in over 750,000 COVID-19 deaths.

I'm sure you will continue to minimize this though.

That includes people who died and it just so happened they tested positive.

1

Oct 26, 2021, 3:39 PM

They’ve counted everyone.

Colin Powell died from cancer, but also had covid.

George Floyd died with covid!

Guess what…they were counted in your handy death toll.

How many others? We’ll never be told.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Okay, so how many of the 750,000 COVID-related deaths

Oct 26, 2021, 3:41 PM

are you willing to attribute to death from COVID?

I have no idea, and you don’t know the real numbers either.

1

Oct 26, 2021, 3:45 PM

Look away from the news and look around you.
We’re safe to live normal lives unless you’re already sick…in which case, take precaution.

Rewind for a second. This conversation began because we have a healthy 20 year old kid who has to go sit in a corner this week for no good reason.
That’s the issue.

Re: I have no idea, and you don’t know the real numbers either.

Oct 26, 2021, 4:24 PM

Except for the people I mentioned above and many like them. They were perfectly healthy. Caught Covid. Now dead.

There’s lots of healthy people dying from this still.

Having covid is a pretty good reason to sit out…IMO.

No, Colin Powell had been battling cancer for years. Then he got covid and it killed him. Did the cancer make him more vulnerable to getting covid and then dying from it? Absolutely. But none of us know how much longer he may have battled cancer if he had not gotten covid.

Working with an unvaxxed co-worker in her early 30's who had COVID in 2020. Long haul symptoms are messing with her head big time. She is struggling to even remember the simplest of daily routines in her personal and work life; it's sad to watch. But yeah, other than that she's just great.

The brain fog is REAL with Covid

Oct 26, 2021, 5:35 PM

took me months (6-8) to get past the brain fog. Terrible time trying to remember some things (both short term and long term) and focus.

One thing that seemed to help was CBD.

Each of those...

...are listed on the DHEC site as having Covid as at least a contributory cause of death. Now each case obviously differs, but I can tell you (and you can choose to believe or not) that folks are still coming into the hospital Covid positive with the respiratory issues that come with it, and some folks are not coming back out.

not to get into a pissing contest but how many of these are very healthy 18-22 year old athletes? We are talking about student athletes... I read about athletes in "protocol" every week (not just Clemson) I have yet to hear about how their experience goes but they all seem to come back with the minimum time. And i have not read about any deaths to student athletes, I have not read about any even being hospitalized.

Didn’t mean for this to get political. I was just thinking what are the odds of a 0.2% positivity rate and the football players (who are supposed to be vaccinated) being the ones to get Covid!? Typical of how this season has gone!
