Playoff proposal.

Seeds 1-4 should get bye and home game. First round of 5-12 should play at neutral sites and quarterfinal round be played at home site of top 4 seeds. Top 4 should mean alot. OR, play first two rounds on campus. Either way.

Might as well just leave it at 4

That is way too much advantage for the top 4.

Home field would mean a lot in that scenario.
I think CFB is "killing the goose..." by expanding the playoffs. 12 teams is just the beginning.
Since the advent of the 4-team playoff interest and attendance in CFB has gone backwards. Typically there are 1-3 teams with a legit shot to win a NC in any given season. The difference between the #1, or #2 team in the country and #10 is laughable.
Home field for seeds 1-4 is recipe for blowout central, which is unavoidable, so why not? Reward teams that deserve it and maybe people will come their senses.

I think the proposal, subject to change - of course, is the first two rounds (5-12 and then the round of 8) will be played at the home field of the higher seeded team. So teams seeded 5-8 will host the opening round games.
I think their biggest decision left is how to handle the bowl games. Will teams who lose in the opening round, or round of 8, still be eligible for bowls? ()Can you imagine how many players would opt out of a bowl game if they were?) I can't imagine a team in the playoffs losing a game and then still wanting to go to a bowl.
Somebody give me an idea of how the top 6 bowls (Rose, Sugar, Orange, Peach, Fiesta and Cotton) gonna fill their spots.
As radical as it sounds, the idea that seems the most feasible to me is to move ALL the bowl games to August.

Just like in baseball, home field advantage is a huge advantage. They gave most of the SEC teams that advantage, not only in the regionals but the super regionals as well. Look at the coots, a little above average team and hosted a regional. If they had won, they would have hosted a super regional as well. That is not by just happen stance, it was planned. This needs to stop and give deserving teams their rewards.

F the SEC Invitational. Being set up for the eSECpn, media, and pollster biases to stuff the ballot and manipulate the rankings in favor of the SEC, B1G, ND, and other large blue bloods.

The play offs should be the bowl games. So you dont have to worry about kids opting out. Dont make the playoffs a different animal.

I am a big believer in fairness. In football, games have a significant cost to a team. Therefore, I think byes in the playoffs are just wrong.
As an example, I think in 2018 Alabama was gifted a title by getting an SECCG bye. They were so beat up then that 1) I think they lose that game and 2) got an extra week of much needed rest. Same way I feel about OSU last season.
Just keep the playing field level.
