Franklin BBQ in Austin

Mar 10, 2015, 1:10 PM

That place is pretty well-known, though there are likely others just as good. Get there early, as you'll find a long line for lunch.

Enjoy!

You don't mind waiting in line for a few hours.

Had a buddy "win" a gift card in a charity auction. He had to pre-order a month in advance for a large pickup order that was $200+, but he got to skip the line and was in/out in just a few minutes. Best free BBQ I've ever had.

The salt lick outside of Austin is also great. You need to see Austin as a whole

Is Austin one of the better not so metropolis places to visit?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Austin is huge

Mar 10, 2015, 1:25 PM

Traffic is terrible. Better than Houston, but still huge. Lockhart Texas is much smaller and has better BBQ. All of the BBQ none of the hype.

Angelo's in Fort Worth. Great BBQ and a very unique atmosphere. The guy is a avid hunter and fisherman.

It's going to sound crazy

But a few months ago when we went to Dallas we kept noticing this place called Texas Best Smokehouse that had locations in several of the gas stations at exits on I20. We finally decided to give it a try when we pulled into get gas and was overwhelmed by the awesome smokey smell. It was freakin' awesome, and the best part is when we tell people the best meal we had on our trip came from a gas station. Just pull up any of the review sites and see what others had to say. I know the next time I get out that way I'm going to eat there again.

We also ate lunch at Dickie's BBQ in Merdian, MS on the way. It was pretty good as well.

killen's in Houston, Franklin in Austin all highly recommended.

Killen's has the best beef rib in the world. Straight brontosaurus.
