ACC pursuing 4 teams....

Jul 9, 2022, 1:24 PM

Per this YouTube blog. Oregon, Washington, Stanford, and Utah....

I suspect ESPN will keep the payout the same and has broker a deal to let the 4 out (Clemson, FSU, UNC,UVA) of the GOR.

Just reading tea leaves here.

Absolutely a major dumb idea. Why would you want to get 4 west coast teams in the ACC. I hate to admit it, but jump ship and join the SEC.
It hurts to say that but it is the best alternative. To stay where we are is detrimental to the future. Recognize it and move on.

Dude, there is a REASON they are going after these 4. It’s because Clemson, FSU, UNC, UVA are leaving! Try to keep up.

They would join the Big 12 before the ACC. A no-brainer.

In the currently survival-mode environment, it seems the Big 12 has an advantage over the Pac 12 and ACC.

All the Pac 12 and ACC can do after the valuable schools leave is pluck from the smaller conferences in their regions. Meanwhile, once the B1G and SEC finish plucking the most delicious fruit, the best of the leftovers could unit in the Big 12.

Miami will be forced to stay in the ACC because neither of the big 2 wants them.

Miami

Jul 9, 2022, 1:43 PM

Miami brings a ton of bad baggage. They have a TV market, but no one really wants them.

First things first, the U needs to transition from renting to owning a stadium. Crawl before you walk.

The biggest problem with Miami is that they play off campus. Hard Rock stadium is 21 miles (30 minutes on a good day) away from their campus. What game day environment?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Same for UCLA

Jul 9, 2022, 11:26 PM

The Rose Bowl is 26 miles from campus and also 30 minutes on the best day.

TV market ?? Wasn’t it only a few years back they drew

They would NOT join the Big12 first. The ACC will have better payouts after the current B12 contract runs out and Oklahoma and Texas leave in 2 years. They are equivalent now. Plus the ACC network is growing and provides a revenue stream the B12 does not have. Notice how he said Utah had shut down conversations with the B12 in the linked video? There is a REASON!

This move is being done BECAUSE the 4 are leaving for greener pastures.

I will be very willing to eat crow if Utah joins the ACC after the 4 best teams leave. The notion is absurd IMO.

However, I'm not sweating because it won't happen.

We must leave for the SEC and not settle for some haphazard, half-baked, temporary loose (Loser) agreement. The fact the ACC has entered into discussions for such a wacky idea is enough grounds to break our contractual agreement. We have been treated like a redheaded stepchild by this sham conference long enough. Too bad we have drag Tar babies and Cavs with us. They should stay in this basketball conference. The ACC can pick up Kansas Jayhawks when the Big 12 falls apart. Listening to West Virginia fan on Youtube, the travel expense is killing them. They had highest revenue in the Conference and lost money. WE ARE NOT TRAVEING TO THE WEST COAST. This alliance with the defunct PAC 10 is a Joke and if we fall in line with these clowns, we will be getting half the money of Rutgers and Maryland...Unimaginable !!! We can't afford to live in the past. ESPN and the gamblers have won out. They have their semi-pro college parity model after the NFL. First, they destroyed rivalries. Second, regional conferences. Bowl Games, and opportunity for the little guy. If this happened earlier and we were an outsider would little ole Clemson had a chance to rise. I doubt it. PS. Kick the chickens out and bring in Miami.

Those southern pac12 schools gotta prefer big 12. Arizona, Colorado, utah would prefer a game in Kansas, Texas, or Okl over Miami, Boston, or Carolina’s

Is that dude a ginger or is it just the lighting? I don’t trust gingers that is why I’m asking. I did watch the video and the ginger does a good job of putting up tweets he found. It’s nice that a ginger can find work to support itself. So often folks won’t hire them.

How do you know Clem ? You try to keep up. Nothing has been done yet. I would prefer Penn St., Texas Tech, Oklahoma St., and either WV or Baylor. Opinions are like you know what.

So why would Penn St leave a 100 million payout from BIG for ACC?

I don't think B1G has a $100M/team

Re: ACC pursuing 4 teams....

Jul 9, 2022, 2:30 PM

OK guys, you all seem to be missing the picture. ESPN is driving the show, not the ACC! The reason for these for schools to join the ACC is to bring new markets to the ACC network. That helps the ACC and ESPN as they are partners in the ACC network. Try to keep up.

Re: ACC pursuing 4 teams....

Jul 9, 2022, 2:51 PM

ClemTig®. Bingo! ESPN and FOX SPORTS are driving this 100% to achieve new revenue streams and the packaged products they want. This is fine and the way capitalism works. Nonetheless, networks will likely run into some surprises and wild cards along the way. This may include bidding costs, entry of other networks (doubtful but possible), Notre Dame preferences, ACC/PAC 12/BIG 12 preferences, SEC/B1G preferences, and possibly a few rogue universities within conferences who will link up and/or break a different direction than their conference as a whole.

As you point out, the public is slow to catch on that the conferences are not the facilitators of the realignments.

I understand the markets but for West coasts teams to play in prime time it will be 10-11 o’clock in my neighborhood, and how many on the East coast cares anything about PAC 12 football. Probably say the same for PAC 12 fans about the ACC.

Only reason I would ever look up a PAC 12 or a B1G score is to see if USC or OSU lost.

Yeah, i would not bother with the hassle of traveling to places like Utah and Arizona. i think people should slow down and not get caught up in the competitiveness of this. I would imagine that the SEC and BIG 10 mega conferences will be split into regional sections similar to the old conferences everyone was in many years ago.

Man that guy in the video is hard to listen to. I'd rather hear Lou Holtz and Stephen A. Smith spew their word vomit.

Geographical absurdity aside, I don't know why

Jul 9, 2022, 4:50 PM

The ACC wouldn't invite these 4. The PAC12 is coming apart, you're almost certainly going to face attrition yourself soon, and there aren't 4 programs as attractive as these that will need a home soon. I don't see this as a bad idea considering the situation. The other option is... pray the GOR holds your league together as is?

The ACC is dead due to be reactive instead of proactive. We need to negotiate a settlement and leave.
