coming down....in tiny little pieces..."....Uhm, well, that would be sleet. LOL. Okay, enough bitching from Ole Spud today. Gonna go take some homemade beef and vegetable soup with cornbread to my 85 year old neighbors. Y'all have a great day.

Nice! Watch your step on the ice, though. My sister did that for one of her elderly neighbors, fell on the ice, broke her hip. It's a great thing to do for your neighbor, though, and I know they will appreciate it. Be careful!

36 acre pond on Jameson Road in Easley with one of my buddies. It was snowing and the pond had a thin sheet of ice on about half of it (Mrs. Spud was not happy that I went). We had to drag a 12 john boat about half a mile to get to the pond. Anyway, we were tossing little crappie jigs on 4 lb. test on top of the ice, pulling it off and letting them fall. Must have caught 50 that day. Well, we had been fishing about two hours and decided to move. I was up front paddling with my buddy in the back. Now, if you have ever paddled a boat much, you will understand this much better. So, I am paddling pretty hard, and I guess my buddy in the back decided to swap sides and paddle on the same side as me. Well, sir, when I made my next stroke that paddle just dug in toooooo deep, the boar rocked up ALMOST completely on its side and crashed back down....And when young SPUD turned around to look back, ALL I SAW WAS AN EMPTY SEAT. My buddy had fallen out. No life jacket, heavy clothes, etc. Son, you should have heard him when he came up. It was the loudest INHALE I have ever witnessed. But I will say....HE WAS A MAN! I got him to the bank and he walked back to the truck, put on my spare set of clothes, walked back and we kept on fishing!!

True story!

that second pic is sending me to the freezer - wife made some almost like that early in the week ( with deer burger added as well). Froze all of it so we are stocked up for a while.

Spud. Had some beef veg. soup and cornbread for lunch. Don't see any okra in yours. Learned to make the soup and cornbread from my mom who lived to be 100yoa and loved the tigers. She cooked on a wood stove and could cook and can veggies from garden and made jam and jelly from anything we could pick.

realtor!!!

He doesn’t even care if you’re a coot . . . he keeps a few of them as friends!!!

Spud -
Your story of “icy pond fishing” reminded me of a Feb trip to Elliots Pond in Manchester State Forest with my dad when I was still in high school. We, too, were in a 12’ John boat. It was cold enough for the eyes of the rods to freeze and you’d have to dunk them to thaw before each cast.

We pushed through the shoreline ice about noon and headed to a row of button bushes near a drop off on the far side of the pond. The bushes were frozen in a solid layer of ice. Dad had an unleaded, 9” Mann’s Jelly Worm” (purple) tied on and I had a double Colorado bladed, white spinner bait, with no trailer on.

We would cast to the ice covered (and enclosed) bushes and drug the baits off the ice ledge and let them fall. Dad changed to the spinner bait after I caught the third fish, a 9#er!!! Every fish hit as the bait fell off the ledge . . . I can only suppose they were at home in the bushes and heard the clatter and flash above them and followed the baits to the ice ledge. Guessing the jelly worm didn’t make enough noise on top of the ice to attract the cold blooded assassins.

We caught bass until it was too cold to fish anymore as darkness approached. One helluva day with my best friend, my dad!!!

My beef veggie soup is still simmering, should be just right come supper time. I have a mixed marriage, she likes her cornbread with a touch of sugar.

Extra TUs for helping out your neighbor Spud. Be safe everyone.

My husband said earlier this morning it would be a good day to get after some striped bass on Lake Murray. He swears and declares this is great weather to catch ‘em!! And Spud, that is some good looking corn bread and soup. Bless you for sharing with your neighbors. Tiger spirit in action.
